Thought I’d share this little amp I built last week. The Babalfish F8. This is a diy version of the Firstwatt F8 available on Diyaudiostore. If you want the best sounding class A possible, this is probably it.

Do they make the NX-Series that are not self powered? Asking for a friend.

You must be talking about the subs, the other existing NX speaker line up are all passive speakers.

Nice build! How does it compare to the Aleph J sonically? I was thinking of giving it a build in the near future.

It’s a step up from the Aleph J in my opinion. Similar tone, but the F8 has more clarity, punchier bass, and is little more holographic. I have it hooked to my NX Oticas right now and it’s the best I ever heard from them. The center vocal image is deep and utterly real sounding. Even better than my Bottlehead 300b.

I should also add that part of the goodness with this is the power supply. That power supply is the “simple linear bipolar power supply” for sale on Diyaudiostore. It comes with a rectifier snubber circuit and includes resistor values explicitly for the Antek AS-3218 and AS-4218 transformer. It’s really quiet and perfectly laid out.
