Epoxy sealer applied to NX-Treme.  Sanding the interiors of these with all the bracing is going to be time consuming to say the least.

Hi Folks,

A quick update.

I decided to farm out my crossovers and reached out to Frederick @fre11111 for his services.  He has a thread pinned at the beginning of the GR Circle.  He really did an excellent job!  Being in the Southern California area he is going to drop by and audition the NX-Tremes once I get them built.

Those crossovers look awesome!

I got a little swelling along the edges where I applied the System Three penetrating epoxy.  No problem on the first speaker, however, on the second one I applied another coat while is was still wet.  The edges really soak it up fast.  I had no idea that swelling was a possibility.  In any case I have started block sanding to level things out and will need to pay special attention to regain the radius of the bull nose.

Awesome! The paint job looks perfect, like piano black. Almost impossible to DIY a paint job that good.

Thanks!  Yeah, kinda glad I didn't try to diy the finish.  It's hard to see what it really looks like from that picture.  It's House of Kolor Galaxy Gray.  These guys did a fantastic job.  Definitely a mirror finish.  I tried to capture the bronze/gold highlights but it pales in comparison to what my eyes see:

It’s a metallic color? Both my vehicles have metallic finishes. I think usually it’s a three step process, after priming, then the base coat than the clear with the “sparkles” in it.

It’s mostly certain auto finishes that are tri coat. I google it, actually it’s a base color then the translucent mid coat with the flakes, then the clear. Probably most metallic paints are just paint and clear.

Mike, those turned out absolutely fantastic. I'm sure they will sound even better too. That color choice turned out awesome where it's kinda subtle in room until you actually look at it and realize it's super glitzy sparkles. So fun!

Also an FYI, the galaxy gray is just a base/clear over a black or dark gray primer. Not that it's any easier to make look perfect due to being so sparkly, but it's not a 3 step process like your candy red or white pearl paint jobs. Sparkles are just in the color, not in the clear.

All in all. I'm so happy you're in the final stretches to having these complete. Really looking forward to hear your impression once they're up and rocking.

Hi Lloyd,

Thanks for all your insights and patience with my numerous questions.  As you stated, surface prep is everything.  It was a long and arduous task but the results are worth it to me.  Really glad I used penetrating epoxy although not the easiest stuff to sand.  It greatly increased the stability of the MDF for the paint.

You are right about the color being subtle until you approach closer and see the depth and sparkles.  I also like the way the gold/bronze highlights work with the copper midrange nose pieces.

Best,
Mike

 :o Yikes! Let the man get a few hours on them first before spending more of his audio budget! 😅🤔😇

And holy hell yes, the finish and color of those are VERY well done, they do look amazing! 🤤  Nice choices and Kudos!

I'll probably make some off white home made 4" broad band absorbers similar to the black ones I made for my home theater.  Two panels of 2" 702 wrapped in burlap.

I won't be using diffusers since I am running a bacch4mac system.

Can anyone tell me the correct depth to use for the NoRez in the Triple Threats?  I want to make sure I clear the drivers.

The depth of my NoRes is 4.25 inches.  There's plenty of clearance for the driver motion.

By the way, your crossovers are very impressive.
