That receiver sure looks a lot like a Panasonic XR-45.. same panel layout, same chassis, probably the same rear panel.  

Does Matsushita own Kenwood?  I know they owned Technics and may still do... and did a lot of work or co-owned Panasonic also.

Matsushita and Kenwood are not associated.  The two receivers do share the TI Equibit amplifiers, however.

Matsushita does however own 100% of JVC...and their 'digital' amplification technologies are nothing alike.

I wish I could find a picture of the rear panel...I'd like to know if it has spring clips or binding posts.  The 7100 had spring clips for all the speaker terminals  iirc.

Here's the 2005 German Kenwood catalog, with a description of the VRS-7200.  Using an online translater, it indicates that the front speakers have gold-plated "screw clamps."  There's a small picture of the posts in the combined description of the 8100 and 7200.
