I’m not sure I’d classify either the Cure or the Smiths as synth-pop. But if I squint my eyes and turn my head sideways, I may admit the Sisters of Mercy “Floodland” release is the output of a one man synth-pop band (Patricia didn’t actually play on the album). But I prefer to think of their pre-WEA lineup.

It was a joke. I saw the original 80s news video about goths, as well as some modern day goths reacting to that same news video. The modern goth guy predicted the one original goth girl saying "The Cure, The Smiths". I believe I posted the same joke elsewhere on Music Circle. The joke just stuck with me.
