Clari-T Upgrades
« on: 16 Apr 2005, 08:56 pm »
I've just received my upgraded Clari-T back a couple of days ago.. The unit was upgraded with Blackgate caps and boy, I can tell you the improvements are not subtle!  Before this I felt the amp stuggles at higher volumes with my no so efficient speakers (~89db) - sounding rather thin and not so well controlled esp in the lower end.
With the BGs the 'thinness' is pretty much gone (Adamay - are you reading this) and the sound now is much more 'robust', 'bold' and has much better control in the bass department.  I know BGs are bastards to break-in - imaging is still a bit lacking and the HF/LF are still not as articulative - hope things will tighten up over time.
I felt that the BGs have also contributed to a harmonically richer sound with more texture.
For owners of Clari-T who want to take the already great amp to the next level - this is an upgrade I would highly recommended!!

Any idea what caps the Black Gates replaced?

I believe they were 2  low ESR Panasonic FC capacitors used for the power supply decoupling.

Hi,

Blackgates can take about 200 - 300 hours to break in.  I had a digital amplifier and thought it sounded very thin but with the blackgates installed it dramatically improved the sound imo.
