Suggestions on a HIFI Rack please...
« on: 15 Apr 2005, 08:21 pm »
Hey Guys,

i need some help. I just finished parts of the studio (walls, floors) and i am currently working on the elecricity. BZZZZZ :P

Anyways i need a rack, since the black one is so ugly now. I am looking to spend about 150 to 200 EUROS and it should be in light oak and have 3 bases. Also the bottom one should hold 110lbs since the Krell is sitting there.

Thanks for any suggestions

You could diy with a flexi rack type design from the tnt web site. I built mine using 4- 3/4" threaded rods and 3/4" oak panels. For the Krell, I would suggest a 2" thick maple butcher block shelf. I've got one sitting atop my rack that my cdp resides on. I stained them all with a cherry coloured stain to match my speaks. Since my listening room is in the basement with carpet on concrete, I ground the bottoms of the rods to a point so that they bite through the carpet and make a solid contact to the concrete floor. Nice overall improvement in sound from the shelves behind the bar where my rig used to reside.
