After listening to the whole album, I would have to say
Plans
is damn good. Maybe even better than
Transatlanticism
overall.

If you like Plans you gotta get the Postal Service album. It's the side project of the DCFC lead singer, I forget his name but the album is a great one. It's probably my favorite album of the past couple years.

Been on a cd buying binge lately, picked up the following within the last month:
Karen Ann 'Nolita', sweet soft vocals with a jazzy tingue.
Soweto Percussion Ensemble 'tales of the drum', drum talkers know this one.
Gerald Veasley 'live at the Jazz Base', I expected more, not enough variety for my taste.
Erik Truffaz 'Saloua', another take on the Milesian fusion slant of the early 70's.
Ahmad Jamal 'The Legendary OHEH & Epic Recordings', I like his touch on the piano and was hoping to recapture a listenning pleasure I had from the 70's of a live album I had that he did in a club somewhere in Chicago...
Keith Jarret ' Radiance', his latest live solo recording...could do without the polite obligatory applause, in fact could do without the pianist grunts and moans...good piano sound nevertheless.
Stereolab 'margerine eclipse', haven't opened this yet, hope its surprising.
Joshua Redman Elastic Band 'Momentum' ,still sealed, got some of his earlier efforts...read Stefon Harris on vibes, Meshell Ndegeocello on bass, Kurt Rosenwinkel on guitar and Nicholas Payton on trumpet...some great players backing up this cd, so should be good.
I also picked up about 18 cds in Los Angeles on my recent visit there a couple weeks ago mostly for less than $2. Most where used and a few were new, had them shipped. Should arrive within the next week.
Winter does make for lots of listenning time.

I just picked these up today.
* Yo-Yo Ma -Silk Road Journeys
* b.b King - the Ultimate collection
* Harry Potter - Prisoner of Azkaban
* Joss Stone - Mind, Body & Soul
* Joss Stone - The Soul Sessions (first heard when a customer brought it in)
* Marilyn Manson - Lest we forget
Yes, I do listen to Marilyn Manson. There is something about this music that gets me going when working. I have a big place and usually alone most days. It has to be
LOUD
. You just have to be careful you don't head-bash into a glowing 805 tube on the work bench
HAve ya heard his version of
Tainted Love

I realize I've relayed this story before, but years ago I saw Manson at the Pomp Room here in Sioux Falls. I honestly thought they were a gag band; it never occured to me that they were real! The fact that they actually sell records that people buy...that just amazes me to no end.

I would love to see a live show. Obviously not something I would take the kids to.
Mozart to Metallica............. I like it all.

Hmmm...having seen them live I can reassure you that you haven't missed anything. But I saw a lot of bands around that era that I did like- Danzig, April Wine, Great White, Badlands, and the always terrific Fight.
I dig my metal.

Ok, just got my Beatles Collection UK version. All of the original UK versions of the albums on LP. I've listened to one and it sounds great!
Man, these albums are great! It's been awhile since I've listened to them.

I've bought about 10 of the Living Stereo MC SACD reissues now and they're almost all uniformly excellent. I particularly like the Van Cliburn/Fritz Reiner disc; a wonderful version of Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto #2.

Robert Clasper, 'Canvas'. Rich sounding trio of piano, bass and drums.
Fiona Apple, 'extraordinary machine'.
Sigur Ros, 'Takk..'. Just doesn't do it for me, heard a lotta talk about this Icelandic outfit but this and their previous CD haven't stirred much appreciation for their music. Maybe I need to be in the right mood for it...ok, pass the spliff...
Anoushka Shankar, 'Rise'...not yet listenned to...
Emiliana Torrini, 'Fisherman's Woman'. looks like folk-vocal, at least she has a cute face. nylt.
Ilona Knopfler, 'live the life'. Another pretty babe in the jazz vein. A few gems here, sings in French and English.
Ravi Coltrane, 'in flux'. He is finally finding his 'voice' on the sax...his best recording I have so far.

Finally recieved my shipment of bargain 'used' CD's purchased while I was in Los Angeles last month. Most of them were $1.99 or $2.99 and were further discounted 50%.
David Eastlee. 'Left COast Blues'. LA's resident bluesman.
Vince Watson. 'Moments in Time'. House/techno/electronica
Sonny Simmons. 'American Jungle'. A quartet with Simmons on alto sax, T. Shook on piano, Reggie WOrkman on bass, and Cindy Blackman on drums.
Patricia Barber. 'Verse'. This is the second cd I have of her music, and the recording is very good. I like her music too, more so than Khrall.
Art Ensemble of Chicago. 'Tribute to Lester'. this was $7.99, but I had to have it, great fan or AEC. There was once 5, now there are only 2...or maybe 3, not sure if Joseph Jarman has rejoined the group full time. Not every jazz lover cup of tea, I know, but they are/were something else live...every moment of their 'time' on stage was about the performance, music unknown known life. I remember seeing them live one time paired with David Murray all horn group(can't remember the name)...a music student next to me was writing down the notes(or something) during the Murray's group performance... the AEC came on next, one member came out ringing a bell, then was joined by another blowing a whistle, then picked up his upright bass and started a conversation with his bass strings, a couple minutes later Roscoe joined in on his sax, and the music continued uninterupted for the next 90 minutes...the the music student had long since put away the pen and folded up her note pad, and was lost in the experience. After the concert I overheard an older gentleman muttering to his spouse, '...they had no respect for the ...' , that just wasn't his daddy's bebop, I suppose.
Will list more as I listen to them.
