I've been into OPAmp rolling in my Bugle lately. My favorite combo so far is:
Stage 1: OPA2134
Stage 2: OPA2134
Stage 3: (2) OPA627s in a Brown Dog Adapter
Today, after leaving the above setup in place for a while, I decided to try something different; swapping OPA2604s for the OPA2134s, OPA637s for the OPA627s.
Well, I was not paying attention, and plugged in the OPAmps in backwards!
At first, I was puzzled that there was no hiss whatsoever (config is for 63db), then I smelled something hot. Poked around and burnt my fingers on the 637s; lesson learned. Nothing like frying $70. Swapping OPAmps around requires more attention than rolling tubes.
Running an OPA2134 in S1, (2) 637s in S2 and (2) 627s in S3 right now; sounds great and no DC yet. I have some AD8620s and AD825s on the way.
DIY, it's not just an adventure!
