65 year old music lover and audiophile here from the Great White North (near Toronto). Always great to learn about this fantastic hobby from those with much more knowledge than I.

I'm a year ahead age wise but have been around the past time for ~50 years.

Greetings! What do you want to know?
At your age I would recommend a shelf filter starting at 8khz rising to +6db at 16khz.
If you hear the word 'tube' run for it. Take as long as it takes to setup the speakers in your room. Move to Mexico where the CAD is worth 6X more and snow means a whole different thing.
