BDP-1 - Interface Down!
« on: 2 Sep 2022, 03:11 pm »
Interface Down is showing up in Settings Network Interface. No music is showing up in the data base. Using the same hard drive I've been using for years. Tried everything I can think of including network reset.

Ok. I have 2 BDP-1's and they're both  having the same issue. The second one started after the latest firmware update. I can't quite remember if the first one started before or after the update.

Talk about funny. This is exactly what triggered my joining the AudioCircle site in the first place. I would read the Bryston section (and others) constantly but was never able to respond to people. Well, when my BDP-1 just went down with this exact problem, I finally pulled the trigger to join here not only to speak to the gentlemen at Bryston but to also finally be able to interact with other audiophiles and learn and share audio knowledge.

Yup, a BDP-1 down right after this last update and I took the BDP-2 offline from the network so I don't get blitzed twice. lol

It most certainly must have started two updates ago because mine started acting funny these past two updates. I actually hadn't updated it in quite awhile (2 years) and was running perfectly during that time. Figured if it ain't broke don't fix it and my setup is very simple. I decided to update it and it's been two firmwares that haven't functioned right since. It started with occasional losing ethernet signal on the previous firmware update to it happening ever minute or so during this last update. Now I get zero drives and ethernet offline but yet still connecting to web interfaces. Tried everything I could think of and see from the bdp forum and nothing works. The BDP is down and registering no ethernet connection although it actually connects no problem to the webpage interface and am able to navigate throughout them. What the problem is that there is no music. Not from NAS, not from stick. Nothing registers in the player itself anymore. PLAYER DOWN!!!

Welcome aboard and thanks for chiming in. It's a long weekend but hopefully somebody will come along soon with a solution.

My bda-3.14 can play Roon as is was the last setting i used. But no webpage showing. So no changes posible. AND srill no answer from bryston support yet! My ip is correct but page still '' unsafe ''. Getting a bit nervous about this. I bought the bryston partly becourse thete good reputation for support ans 'exelent' service. I feel a bit left behind in the cold.

I wouldn't worry about Bryston, they are very good at getting back to customers and fixing problems. I have had very good experiences with both Chris and Mr. Tanner. I got my first Bryston BDP-1 literally a month after it came out way back in the day. Chris taught me how to flash the cards and I did a few very safe mods to my player as well (spikes, dampening chassis, fuses, WAY FASTER INDUSTRIAL COMPACT FLASH CARD). Even by today's standard the BDP-1 still holds its own as a detailed player and with the mods it's much better. Was even going to have the rest of the chassis redone in aluminum at one point but I bought a way better power cord instead. I wrote to Mr. Tanner at the time and he was very happy that I enjoyed the player. Chris has been instrumental in helping me learn to flash the firmware on the compact flash. There are not too many companies out there like Bryston who communicate with their customer base like they do. I wouldn't worry. It may take a little bit but they will solve the problem. If you are handy at flashing cards then you could always flash two firmwares ago but I am just going to wait it out even if it's a week or so. If they can't fix the problem in a timely manner they may just release a previous firmware to re-download via player. Just give it a little time.

Thank you. I wouldn't worry about it though. I'm not worrying. Chris knows what he is doing and he has helped me out quite a bit when it came to learning about the player and flashing the firmware externally via compact flash card. Bryston is a good and reputable company. They will solve this. It may take a little bit and I'm not even going to bother reflashing the card since my player still can do upgrades via ethernet. If it takes too long I might consider it but for now a week or two is no big deal if it solves the issue.

Hi Vinrouge,

That's your browser likely not liking that the player wants to use http rather then https, it should have presented some way of continuing.

Those two issues are likely unrelated, if your music is stored on a USB drive then the network interface has nothing to do your music library not showing and if you can view the network information page from a version of our product that only has one network interface, then the network interface is functioning despite what its indicating.  The first thing you might want to try is just updating the database, there are three buttons grouped together, clear, consume and update; you'll want to click the update button and check media player.  If your music is still missing check disk information to see if your drives are listed or nas setup if your using network attached storage to make sure the entries are still there.

Hi,

The updates only get installed if you choose to install them, we don't push updates remotely onto our units.

Hello Chris,

I meant no offense and yes, I chose to update the unit and when it stopped working right I thought it was the unit itself and not the update. Now that I see others are having the same problem it's actually a relief that it isn't a hardware issue on my end. I'm not upset nor am I badmouthing Bryston as stuff happens as is common in the computer world (that I also work in). Bugs within software is a common issue that is always solved with a patch or update.

On the services page, is MPD running? Are you able to play any of the radio stations in Media Player?

Hi Chris.
Took my bda-3.14 to a friend today. Same problem there. Not able to get on the my.bryston.com webpage for security reasons. Althow it's showing the startpage with connected gear and his IP-adres. So nothing wrong here at my home with my internet browsing or router.
It must be the player having a bug somehowe.

Chris

It says MPD is ON on the service page and yes I can play radio stations. I want to remind you that both my BDP-1's are behaving the same way.
