Jazz Covers Of Rock Songs

I was out walking yesterday and listening to a playlist I had created on Tidal. Several of these songs came up during shuffle play, so I decided to share them. I'll start by saying that Brad Mehldau has numerous covers on his albums with my favorites being: "Things Behind The Sun", "Hey Joe", and "Blackbird". Here's the rest of my list:

"Space Oddity"- Eivind Austad Trio
"Message In A Bottle"- Andy Milne
"Spooky"- David Sanborn
"Here There And Everywhere"- Tim Thornton
"Here There And Everywhere"- Mitchel Forman
"Can't Stop"- Three Fall
"Sunshine Of Your Love"- Dominick Farinacci
"Heart Shaped Box"- Yaron Herman Trio
"Ode To Billie Joe"- Tim Warfield
"Babe I'm Gonna Leave You"- Yoko Miwa Trio
"If 6 Was 9"- Charles Owens Trio
"And I Love Her"- Pat Metheny
"Here Comes The Sun"- Al DiMeola
"The End"- Joachim Kuhn
"Fragile"- Nils Landgren

I'm sure there are more, but these are the ones I've currently discovered....and liked.

My personal favorite is "Lounge Against The Machine" by Richard Cheese

The Bad Plus cover a couple rock songs on every album it seems. Their cover of Peter Gabriel's Games Without Frontiers is a good one.

From Maple Shade the C-Nuts, the entire album is rock standards played by a jazz band recorded in Pierre's basement recording studio.  An up front, live sounding recording like most of the late Mr Sprey's efforts with remarkable soundstaging.

Bill Frisell's covers of Beatles songs are always interesting and enjoyable.

Here is a Tiny Desk Concert, with his takes on "Nowhere Man", "In My Life" and "Strawberry Fields Forever":

look into jacqui naylor, a singer based in norcal and her husband/music director art khu

they creatively 'smash' many popular and rock songs into other songs' melodies in a jazz-pop context and motif...  lovely music

Brad Meldhau does a great cover of Alice In Chains "Got Me Wrong". Another great album is Jazz Side Of The Moon. And as previously mentioned, anything from Richard Cheese is pure gold.

Be sure to check out the Crimson Jazz Trio and their King Crimson Songbook. Inspired and tasteful interpretations here. Really a final statement by Ian Wallace, and I'm glad he was able to do it. Top level musicianship, and extremely well done.

I'd also make sure the source and amp are using the same output/input level settings, since a mismatch there can sometimes make the system sound thinner or quieter than expected. It's an easy thing to overlook but worth checking before changing any hardware.
