I know those Path resistors are touted as being great resistors, but they are not. They are a significant bottleneck. Swap them out for our GR Research resistors and things will really open up.

Danny, I'm trying to reconcile your statement above about Path resistors not being great with your listing Path resistors under "Premium Resistors" on https://gr-research.com/resistors/. Am I misunderstanding something? Thank you.

Good question. I need to address that. Hobbs built that page several years ago before we really started testing with them and before realizing that they had steel endcap.

That page needs an update.

Hello Everybody,

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving with family and friends. I just wanted to post photos of a KEF R3 META that I just finished building. I used 3 crossover boards for each speaker, the inside is very tight with all the bracing. Enjoy!

I will be bulding another KEF R3 META crossover  that will be externally mounted. We have the parts from Danny and just waiting for some big coils to come from US COILS. Have a blessed sunday everyone.

I'm the owner of the KEFs in the pics above and I cannot speak highly enough about Freddy. I shipped the speakers to him as I'm not much of a DIYer and wanted it done right. Freddy's attention to detail was phenomenal, taking meticulous care of the speakers from start to finish. He also took the time to discuss crossover and binding post options with me (e.g. Jupiter bypass caps), patiently educating as well as sharing pertinent links to Danny's videos. He provided updates and photos throughout the process. I don't really need to say anything about his excellent crossover builds as the pictures speak for themselves. His service fees are more than reasonable and absolutely worth it. Being about 200 hours into the burn-in process now, soundstage has opened up beautifully and resolution significantly improved. It would be fun to go head to head with a pair of KEF Reference 1 Meta speakers sometime. Thank you so much, Freddy! And thank you as well, Danny, for your analysis of the R3 Meta and resulting crossover schematics and parts kit.

Hi Freddie - nice and clean work - as expected.  Will it be possible to associate the cross overs with the appropriate speakers - and parts used?

Hi,

Yes, I can do that for sure. Most of the crossover are GR kits, but some are for custom speakers that clients send me schematics of. I order most of my parts from Danny. If you have questions about certain crossover or parts feel free to reach out and I will be happy to help.

Hi Everybody,

I just wanted to share photos of a client’s finished project. I completed his KEF R3 Meta crossover upgrade a few weeks ago and shipped it to Mexico. He decided to go with an external crossover because he wanted to fully upgrade the woofer section.
The crossover parts were purchased from GR Research. We upgraded the midrange capacitors to all Sonicaps, and the bypass capacitors are all Jupiter copper foil. The woofer section was a little tricky—I had to order custom-made air-core inductors and find the large-value capacitors that were needed.
In the end, the project turned out great. He has a beautiful system and is very happy with the upgrade.

Thank you, and have a blessed week.

Frederick -- did you design and build the crossover boxes?

No, we only communicated measurements. He has a furniture carpenter in his area that helped build the boxes.

Hello Everyone,

I hope everyone is well, it has been awhile since I posted new photos of projects. I have been doing alot of crossover work but mostly the same upgrades and projects. I also got busy because I had to finish getting my FAA Airframe and Powerplant licenses. Thanks to god and my family I am a certified A&P mechanic now.

Anyway, here are some photos of projects that I think is interesting.

Have a blessed week. Thank you for looking.

Wow!  What speaker is used with the crossovers in the first two pics?

I honestly forgot the brand, it is suppose to be an ambient horn speaker that is firing off axis. The L-PADs were replaced by fixed value resistors following the owner setting. I will ask him again so I can tell you the brand.
