Hi,

I’m curious how did this work out for you? I’m not sure if you had a similar issue with your Cherry amp. But my 5-CHerry won’t power on. I’m wondering if it’s just replacing a power supply on my amp as well. I took some pics of the inside of my amp to see if it may be something I can fix but the fuse looks ok, although two of the caps do look a little bulgy? Any suggestions welcome.

Regards,
John

It didn't work out so well!
I selected the cheapest shipping option from connex as I wasn't in a particular hurry and the power supply got lost in the post!

They want me to pay for (or at least share cost of) a replacement.  I am wondering if that might be throwing good money after bad.

In the meantime I discovered the Fosi ZA3 Amp which costs less than the power supply and though not quite as good as the cherry isn't far off it at about one tenth of the price!
I do want to get this power supply sorted out but ideally would like to find a different supplier as I am not very impressed with connex!

If you decide to replace with a power supply from connex, my recommendation would be to select the more expensive courier option for shipping.

This post is for xXNYXx who has DM'd me about the jumper for switching between 120V and 230V on the power supply.

Mine is configured for 230V and the jumper is absent.
See photo below ...

Oh and yes I have the 60V power supply.  Though currently not working!

That’s a bummer about the lost part! I was under the impression that Connex had actually gone out of business. I appreciate the info!

After much thought I ended up selling my 5-Cherry amplifier to xXNYXx as I didn’t have the experience or time to fix it. He actually had a spare power supply and got the amp up and running again in no time at all! I recommend him actually if you might have any issues getting your Cherry amp(s) to work. As I needed a replacement amp soon I picked up a Buckeye NCx500 for my LCRs. I will miss the 5Cherry for how excellent an amp it was and sounded.

Good luck!

I have been a big fan of the Cherry amps for years and still own a Maraschino stereo King. I can only imagine what innovations Tommy might have implemented over the past 5 years since we lost him. I recently purchased a pair of Orchard Audio Starkrimson 25 monos and they sound to me like the Cherry amps taken to the next level - all of the finest qualities of the Cherries but with a bit more heft and deeper bass. I have no affiliation with Orchard, just wanted to share a thought for those looking for what might be considered an evolution of that wonderful Cherry sound.
