Sorry for the ad, but it's worth waiting for it.

Didn't see any ad, use Ad Blocker.

I'm particular to the earlier work of BTO when they were in the Zone. I've listened to more recent versions of their songs and it doesn't do it for me. :smoke:

Part of the fun of Sleater-Kinney is getting quite good bass guitar sound - with no bass. (hence the winky face) Guitar down tuning, particularly on the part of Corin Tucker works nicely. (and some synthesizer work, less fortunately, here and there)

Recent examples: Can I Go On and The Dog/The Body from The Center Won’t Hold.

Older: What’s Mine Is Yours and Steep Air from The Woods.

Yers, John

Well, there you go. I had no idea.

I can relate to what you're saying for sure. I was just glad to see Fred Turner still belting it out somewhat recently.

Are you a fan of their earlier work as Brave Belt?

Vic Wooten's playing on Bela Fleck's "Sinister Minister". His wicked solo starts at around 2:38.

Also "Vix 9" and so many others from his incredible tenure with the Flecktones.

If we're straying away from strictly rock, I'll suggest "Silver Blue" from JD Souther's Black Rose album. Incredible bass, courtesy of Stanley Clarke.

Wow - how have I missed this one? I love an understated yet masterful bass line. Great rec!

Tal Wilkenfeld's playing on Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's.

Jaco Pastorius on Pat Metheney's first album, Bright Size Life (and his work on pretty much every Weather Report album).

C'mon, for bass guitar rock songs? Anything from Morphine. Drums, Baritone Saxophone, and 2 string slide bass. That's the whole band. Sigh, I miss Sandman.
