OK, so I have been listening to my Sony Discman and Grado SR60s for years. What is a moderate step up while only spending $100-200 or so?

I am moving and my high end rig will go in storage for six months or so, that means headphone listening is IT for a while.

Headroom amp, new phones, new player? I have no clue.

Thanks.

A couple of important questions:

Do you like the sound of your Grados?
Is remaining portable important?

You might want to try the Grado SR-225s.  They are $200 list, but you should be able to get them for less, or get them used for ~$150.

There aren't a lot of portable amp options.  The ones that come to mind are the Headroom Airhead and the Xin Supermini.  Or, you could get something like a PIMETA from JMT - http://jmtaudio.com/  it looks like he has a couple of demo ones already built for $110.

I don't know anything about portable CD players.
