Just a heads up in case it matters. https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/gan-amp-speaker-popping-sound-at-power-on
I have had the Underwood HiFi Voyager GaN350 for 3 months. Mine was modded by Ric Schultz of EVS. Before that I had (actually still have it in a secondary system) Ric Schultz EVS1200 which was a dual mono IcePower (1200AS1) where Ric actually modded the modules. Before Class D (I wasn't sold on it when I heard what was out there 6-7 years back), I had Class A/AB amps, including one that still is a current model and lists for $11k (it listed for $9k when I had it). Before that I had an older version of another brand of A/AB amp, where the version after mine (no longer made) currently lists for about $11k as well. Class D has come a long way. From what I understand, there aren't any made (or if there are I'm not aware of them) from discrete input stages. They all have op amps as the first thing the signal passes through. I'd expect that when that happens, except for the free hernia that comes with some of the big A/AB amps, it's going to be a game changer
So, how does HiFi voyager compare to your past amps? There's not a lot of GanFET amp choices right now, but I expect that to change sooner rather than later. I went with the Gan400 based on the specs, output power, and feedback from fellow audio geeks I trust.
I've been running this little GaN amp for a couple of months now. Excellent sonics. Better than a Purifi based Apollon I had before it. It has a few more features than Wally's amp, Peachtree and Orchard since it can be run single-ended with no adapters and the gain is easily changed. I've had zero issues (no popping at turn on, for instance). It sells for $800 but "only" has 200w/ch. haha Worth a try if you're interested in these types of amps.https://premium-audio.com/mini-gan-5-balanced-2-channel-power-amplifier.html
A Taiwanese audiophile buddy of mine bought a GAN amp from LSA about a month ago. He tweaked the daylights out of it, and is now very happy with it. I’ll post all of his tweaks in a couple days when I’m back home.
I've already posted a review of that amp. I got mine when it was $700 (https://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=178455.msg1877185#msg1877185). Definitely a bargain at that price point. I current have it in a secondary system.
