Anyone pick up this SACD yet? After reading a great review I linked to from AA I went out and picked up a copy at Walmart for $15. The disc has sacd 2.0, 5.1 and is a hybrid. The review said the red book track was great so I thought...what the hell.

I don't have a SACD player yet because 1) I first heard this cd was going to be in DVD-A so I had to wait because if I am going to re-buy all issues from a band it will be Floyd for sure

2) I have put the ki-bash on any equipment purchases until after the MAF. Well, except for the Rava SE I just bought

I am not going to do a review, but I will just say that it was well worth it! The recording is very detailed and quiet. The presentation moves effortlessly between the speakers. You will be able to hear most of those words someone speaks while the footsteps run back and forth in front of you. As I listened with my eyes closed, I thought I was in an insane assylum

Only had a chance to listen once as company was just arriving. I can't wait to put this puppy on SACD 5.1. I may have to get a cheepo player just to try it. (should have bought the Sony ns500! when I had the chance

) DSOTM is not my favorite Floyd album....probably the least, but I do enjoy it. It gave me the nastalgia of a great cassette copy of an LP off a lo-fi college system we had. Before the CD for all you whipper snappers, when all we had was Dolby B. Hell, I still remember the big upgrade to Dolby C and dbx

I got this same feeling from the remastered Alan Parson's collection I recently pick up also. That is a group I'd happily re-buy in 5.1 sacd too.

If you are thinking about getting this sacd....get it.

I didn't think was being released til Mar 31st!? You already bought it at Wally World? I didn't see it at Best Buy yesterday, but I'll look at both places today. I read a review of it that basically said it was the best MC record ever issued, a complete sonic triumph. I'll see as soon as I can find it!

now all they need to do is make all the rest of their albums in SACD. Do you think it sounds better played on a regular cd player than the regular redbook cd does. or did you already awnser this. i dunno

I'd at least like them to do The Wall and Wish You Were Here. I'm not a walking Pink Floyd encyclopedia, there's probably some of their albums I haven't really heard much.

The aforementioned review stated that the CD layer was superior to the older remaster from (if I recall) Mobile Fidelity. I think that't be the gold disc.

I'll be picking it up tomorrow when I make my weekly BB run. I second the motion that Wish You Were Here should be released. It is my favorite Pink Floyd Album.

They can do all of them and I'd buy them all. Actually now that I think about it, I'd be buying them three times lp, cd, sacd. Looks like a racket going on here.

).

There were about 80 threads on the first page at AA Saturday night when I read about it. Had the wife pick up a copy when she went for diapers

Ditto the WYWH, my fav PF alb. I personally favor the DSOTM-Animals-WYWH-The Wall stretch the best.

But, I have fond memories of listening to DSOTM in a stupor

BB and CC are supposed to have it for $11.99, or something like that, starting on Tuesday.

Haoleb, forgot to ask, have you been to that Floyd web site lately? My buddy lost his favorites and asked me to send the link. I went there and it was down on a number of tries. Do you know anything?

This reg CD is in my 5 disk JVC 90% of the time...I will be picking it up and playing it on my (laugh track) x-box becuase it sounds better on it

Yeah I know I need to upgrade, it is just that I read to much and to poor (Hmm "skinflint'") to buy and upgrade a year later, to what will be cheaper and better

Ok just picked it up and gave it a listen and I must say I really enjoy it. Pink Floyd lends its self to 5.1 and this issue confirms it. Also there is some detail there that I don't remember on the CD version. Could be that I havn't listened to it in a while but it just felt fuller. The rears were very active but they shut up when they were supposed to. There was a nice effect where basically a guy was running around the room.

I finally found it today, too. Suffice it to say I'm blown away by DSotM in SACD surround. The album really "opens up" in MC and has more room to breath, as well as a sense of space that the two channel version can't match. Not to mention how much the high rez treatment has contributed to a smoothness and ease that is very imressive.

One thing, too, that impressed me was the bass of this disc. I thought the original had pretty decent bass, but the SACD is better by a mile.

I was a little worried when I learned Alan Parsons wasn't involved, but I needn't have been. The mix is mostly stellar, and the original bandmembers have apparently signed off on it as well.

Almost best of all is that I bought it for $11.99 at BB! Cheaper than the CD version.

As a footnote, the disc is a hybrid, and the remastered CD layer creams my old CD version. So even if you haven't taken the SACD plunge this disc is a must have just for the remastered CD layer.

Well, thanks for costing me more money! And who said point of sale advertising doesn't work on the internet! Went to check the price of DSOTM at Amazon, they recommended packing it up with the Stone's Beggars Banquet. Well, since I did that I figured I may as well find something else to get over the $35 limit to use a $5 coupon. So I got Police Every Breath you take - the new one. All for $35 shipped. Cheaper than Best Buy even though BB has two of the titles for $11.99!

Believe it or not this is my first ever Stones ablum purchase...but it does have one of my favorite songs of all time on it! Sympathy for the Devil.

took 4 stops and about 1.5 hours but i finaly tracked down a verson-dont have sacd player but dont have a reg copy of it anyway just a cdr copy that clicks at every song start.

The downside is that now I'm afraid to buy any of the other albums remastered. I was listening to the ('97) remaster of "Wish You Were Here", which sounds amazing; then I put in my original copy of The Wall. Arghh!

It sounds flat and lifeless compared to the remastered WYWH. Which sucks because, a) The Wall is godlike and b) it costs $30! I definately hate to buy it again if it's coming out on SACD, yet I hate to wait for months to have a nice sounding CD.

Since I sort of live for Floyd, I went to BestBuy the morning it was released. Then I went to my local vendor and listened to the entire disc on a Krell/B&W 40k plus system and then again on a Krell 5.1 system with B&W's and a Velodyne sub(60k). I also had the original release with me. I do not gauge my listening on how much something costs

but in this case I figured what the heck, it is a "special day"

Some short review points that are not already mentioned.

The original release can be tossed in the garbage can. The redbook layer on the new sacd blows it away. Wider, no compressed treble and no muddy bass. Right here it is worth the purchase.

But, you also get the 5.1 layer. This is nice because it is the first 5.1 mix I have heard which doesn't overdue it. Center channel is not over used nor are the rears. It is a good mix.

For $11.99 at BestBuy you can't afford to pass this up.

I too would like to see WYWH, Animals, The Wall

and of course Meddle.

I agree about tossing the original release, the redbook layer on the new disc is much better.

I haven't heard the 5.1 mix yet but the 2 channel DSD is very nice indeed. The house was empty for a few hours Wednesday and I had the chance to compare the original release, vinyl and the two layers of the new release.

I prefered the vinyl over the new redbook for overall smoothness but the new redbook was sooo much better than the old one. I enjoyed the DSD layer more than my vinyl copy. It will be interesting to hear the new release on LP once it's available. Too bad they pushed the release date back to the 24th.

I found The Wall remastered for $17.90 at mymusic.com.

I had the original CD's too and the remastered version is much much clearer!

Wonder how much shipping is? Oh, well, even for $18 it's probably a waste of money. I would think it will be rereleased for SACD like DSotM. And if it's any indication, the CD layer will sound better than the remastered CD did.
