Hello from Bright Seattle
« on: 11 Dec 2021, 06:05 am »
Hello fellow audiophile.

My setup is:
  • Music Server - AssetUPNP running on a Raspberry Pi with 12 instances, each one for genre or particular groups I like.
  • Music Collection - Some pop, a lot of 70s, 80s. Also a lot of rock. But mostly I have, and consume my Jazz and Classical albums. A total of 1900 CDs that I have bought (and still keep) and ripped. All have correct tags and art.
  • Workstation - Apple Mac Air, with Fubar HD DAC/Amp for headphones audio-technica ATH-M50x
  • Studio - Naim UnitiQute 2, with KEF LS50 speakers and Martin Logan Dynamo 300 subwoofer.
  • Software - On MacOS, VLC. For the main amp I use the Naim app which is decent (not great)

From what I read so far, I have a lot to learn!

  • To whom more was given more will be required.
    • Never go to a psychiatrist, adopt a straycat or dog. On the street they live only two years average.

Welcome!

First thing to learn is the impact of the room.  Avoid small/squarish/uninsulated rooms.  Try for a dedicated room with concrete floor.  Next size your loudspeakers to the given room, the LS50 are small and struggle to fill a largish room.  Next read Floyd Toole's "Sound Reproduction" (either edition) to learn how rooms inherently create huge bass peaks/dips and how to resolve it (multiple subwoofers).

Your system and mine have several aspects in common (varied musical tastes, CD collection, use of a MacBook Air).  And of course a huge limiting factor, the budget.
