Hello all!
« on: 19 Sep 2021, 06:52 am »
I’ve been a quasi-audiophile off and on some I was a teenager, many years ago. A Fisher 210 receiver and some unmemorable speakers to buying a McIntosh MA6100 integrated amp, various turntables, various cassette recorders until I landed with a Tandberg TCD310 and a pair of JBL L88p speakers (still have those in storage). Through the 80’s and early 90’s, I bought a new or used piece here and there and that remains my system today:  McIntosh MA7270 amp, C31V preamp, MI3 tube scope, MR 74 tuner, Magnavox CD player, B&W DM640 speakers and a new ProJect turntable.

Currently, I’m undecided to repair the bad tweeter in one speaker or move up to something nicer. I really like the sound of the DMs, so it’s not a simple choice. My speaker budget is around 3k and am open to suggestions.

Welcome!

Surprised you stayed with McIntosh after the MA6100.  I had one and dumped it when I friend's Advent receiver easily out performed it in sound quality.  Match your loudspeakers to your tastes and room.  Audition carefully.  Take your time.  Use a wide variety of your favorite music including poorly recorded tracks to make sure the loudspeakers don't ruin your favorites.  Take notes to fight fleeting sonic memory.  Limit yourself to 3 or 4 loudspeakers per day.
