Panasonic SA-XR70 running hot
« on: 22 Mar 2005, 02:46 am »
I just bought one last week, and after using it in 6.1 surround mode to watch some DVD movie, I noticed that the top cover toward the left front is quite hot. Is this normal? Is this the area where the power supply resides?
Has anyone else who has the Xr70 experienced the same thing? I emailed Panasonic support and they said that this receiver has a fan and it will kick in when needed. I dont see how that is possible since there is no obvious ventilation holes for a fan...

The SA-XR70 does NOT have a fan. The SA-XR25 and 45 do have fans.

The left front area of the receiver is where the power supply is. There is a regulator module on a heatsink that does get rather hot.

Make sure you have nothing on top of the unit and it has lots of room for ventilation.

Thanks for the reply.  I will make sure that the ventilaton holes are not blocked. I am concerned that such a high amount of heat will shorten the life of the electronics inside...

I have the XR-70 which was modded by Wayne. My left top cover area gets warm to the touch but never hot. Right now its just mildley warm.
