what is "front line equipment" ?

Sorry if this post is not in the correct location, but I'm not sure where it ought to go.
What is front line equipment? I think it means everything prior to the power amp, but I'm not sure about this.

If you mean front end equipment (which is how I've always heard it), my experience has been it means signal source components, upstream from the preamp.

Do you mean front end gear? Typically sources of muzak like CD or LP and the preamp. So you are correct if that is what it is, that everything after the preamp is the back end. Not sure where the line is drawn with those using integrateds. :scratch:

Seriously, I would guess it is similar to "front end" equipment. Meaning your source.
