I have read with big interest your posts on modifying your Beolab 1's :-)

Can you tell the size of the port that you created? diameter and lenght?

Sure. There are two ports per speaker. Inner dimensions of each port are…

4.5cm wide

8cm long

Here is an update; Additional wooden bracing has just been added to the ‘bass chamber’ sections of my Beolab 1 speaker cabinet. This will help to further reduce the internal cabinet vibrations, which will provide cleaner sound quality at loud volume levels.

I also just built this DIY interconnect to link my Beolab 1 speakers to the Beosound 3000 hifi unit. High purity 99.999% copper Kimber PR 19awg wire was used for this, which was very tricky to fit into the NEUTRIK Din plugs. But I eventually managed to do so in the end…

Here are some measurements I took of my Beolab 1 after the modifications were done. As you can see, there is
a healthy bass output which begins rolling off at around 40 Hz. You can definitely hear a fuller sounding low end compared to the originals. Also the well known Beolab 1 thinness and lack of body from the lower midrange/upper bass has been significantly filled in (i.e. FIXED).

Thanks. Hopefully they will give me many more years of musical pleasure. The sound quality is very reminiscent of listening to electrostatic speakers like Martin Logan. Virtually zero cabinet coloration. Floats like a butterfly, stings like a bee.
