Passive Preamp on the way!
« on: 19 Mar 2005, 04:51 am »
All,

I'm gearing up to release a new product...a passive preamp in a matching enclosure as the Clari-T-Amp  8)  (name tba).

Here is some preliminary info:

--10k resistor-ladder stepped attenuator (24 position) with Dale resistors
--Greyhill rotary input select switch with all gold plated contacts
--3 pairs of gold plated RCA inputs
--2 pairs of gold plated RCA outputs (one for an amp, and the other for a
subwoofer or other external device with line level inputs).
--Same style knob used on the Clari-T-Amp, but there will be two of them
   for volume and input select.

--Introductory cost = $279.00

I should be able to have the first one completed by the end of next week.  I'll be sure to post pics on my website.   :P

Could the passive preamp work with a volume controlled model of the clari-t, or should I send the clati-t back to you remove the volume control?  Three inputs sound great.

"pre Par-T"
"Vin-T-age"
"T-total"

going with the "Red wine" and "Clarity" theme....
or just
"Pre-cision"
"T-bone"
"Pre-T"
"Majes-T"
"Puri-T"
"Simplici-T"
"T-Time"

In keeping with Italian(?) Red Wine... Prima di Clari.   I like both Clari-P and Clari-Pre though!

Hi Toby,

I would be better to send your Clari-T back to me to convert to "amp only."  I can do this and send it back to you with a passive preamp.

Regards,

Vinnie

All,

Man, you guys are doing great so far!   8)

I am taking a liking to:

Clari-Pre (or Clari-Pre-Amp, instead of Clari-T-Amp)
Simplici-T
Puri-T

Thanks guys!  Keep 'em coming :-)

or

Versa Pre.

More in the lines of versatility added to whatever device.  Your offerings are amazing.

Vinnie,

Could you offer a home theater bypass option for one of the inputs?

Ofcourse, I could be greedy and ask for a new preamp with a battery-powered DAC section built in...

Or a full passive/battery DAC/Pre/Amp one box integrated unit. I've head rumours someone 'round here is getting one...   :D

Have you considered just turning the Clari-T into an integrated amp?  Surely, there's room in that case for a couple more RCA jacks and input selector switch.  The volume pot could just be upgraded to the Dale resistor unit.

This way, you save money on the second chassis, less signal length, one less pair of interconnects (!), and possibly smaller total cost to us consumers?

Vinne:

This sounds like a great project!

Any chance that you could provide an optional remote control (at least for the volume)?

Scott.

Yeah Vinnie - I guess to have a remote, it would have to have some power supply - perhaps the remote kit off DIY Cable (that I had added into my Hagerman Clarinet) could be run off the battery that lives in the Clari-T?
