Warnerwh,
So you couln'nt resist one of the besyt buys in the audio world . Copycat. Whats  your initial impression?
THough 40s  are more state of the art,I,d bet the Rs will always retain something special. Deservedly.

New midwoofer mod for RM-40s

Thanks Stan, you're right the R's are an excellent speaker and used prices are a super bargain along with the FF3 and FF1's.  Fortunately a very close friend will be using them so they're still in the family.
The RM 40's are amazing I think and you're right they have to be one of the best buys in audio. Bass is excellent  and the midrange and treble are certainly outstanding.  I'd heard a pair of RM 40's over at Soundguy3's house a couple of times and was one of the people who felt the upper bass lower midrange was a little thin.  At the same time I knew I had to have that midrange and treble.  Inner detail is amazing. The new midwoofer totally ameliorated the upper bass thinness problem.  These things also throw a soundstage that the R's can't match and the bass is pounding all over the place.  The potency of the low bass for ten inch woofers is impressive and at the same time being more accurate I feel than the 15's, at least to the low end of the music spectrum, but it's close.

Joshk: I ordered my speakers about 3 weeks ago.  I ordered complete speakers systems, not just the upgrade.

Hi Stan,

Could you tell me the impedance of the new woofer?
And what is the value of the extra capasitor shipped with it?

I just don't understand how a bigger capasitor can make the crossover freqency higher?  :?:

Roger

Woofer is 8 ohms. I don,t know the value of caps AURIES though.

Too much in a hurry to install.

Email  Brian for this  info.

Second impressions ,Bass is very fast and tight.

The new midwoofer makes for an impedance change, the cap compensates for it.

brian, does this mean retrofitting the midwoofer to older models does not change the x-over point?  what add'l stuff is needed to raise the low/mid x-over point to 280hz?

thanks,

doug s.

Isn't the impedance of the old midwoofer also 8 ohms?
