CD player w/Panasonic XR45

Was using a Panasonic RP91 w/my XR45 via coax. connection for music reply -- the RP91 seems to have finally died so I'm looking for a replacement.

My question -- I've heard in this forum that the analog input is lousy on the '45   a) is this true, and b) if so, does it really matter then at this level of equipment what I hook to it to replay CD's?  In other words, if it's true that I may as well use the DACs in the '45 (is this true?), will any decent CD or DVD player do as transport?    Or is it worthwhile to get a good CD player and use the analog outs.

Thanks all.

Common experience has shown the XR45 to function best when using the digital input (some argue only the coaxial is best but I think the toslink is just fine).

However the analog input isn't going to sound crappy...just not as good as the digital input.

I know there are plenty of folks that happily use the XR45 with analog inputs with very good results indeed.

I think what people found was that there was more resolving power and blacker backgrounds when going the "all digital route" versus having your CDP or DAC handle...well the DAC duties.

The TI Chip in the XR45 does a very good job of that on its own.
