The Investigation - excellent Danish murder mystery

The Investigation is 6 part dramatization of a real-life murder investigation about the disappearance and murder of journalist Kim Wall. The series is set in Denmark and very atmospheric with dark tones and almost constant rain as the police try to figure out what happened to Ms. Wall after she boarded an experimental submarine for an article she wanted to write about "extreme machines".

The film is the opposite of the current crop of documentaries in that it does not glorify violence, the suspect is never named or shown, there are no grisly reenactments or crime scene photos, a refreshing look how a crime series can be made without resorting to cheap gore to keep the audience engaged.

The sound track is by Danish musician Agnes Obel and features a mournful cello throughout.

Wired has a feature story about Kim Wall and her tragic story aboard the submarine.
