Ok, I tried a digital receiver and I found I don't like the digital sound. I remember back in the 1990's I had a Technics receiver that had an awsome full sound. I checked on ebay and didn't see the model I used to have and I don't want to keep buying Technics receivers not knowing if I will like how each individual unit will sound. So, what are some good receivers or amps(around 250.00 or less) that have a good full warm sound without that digital harsh, cold, empty sound? Where do I even start since most receivers made today have that digital sound even though they are not even 100% digital?

What digital receiver did you try? What does your system consist of?

from just one bad experience.  Digital can be done poorly or it can be done well, just like any other strategy.  In fact, if you are looking at quality watts for minimal dollars, digital is probably your best bet.

Tripath-based receivers are known to generally be softer sounding and are widely praised for having a distinctly "un-digital" sound.

Ok, I figured it out....I want to go with seperates and I want just an amp...one that will lean more to the analog sound. What's out there for around $250.00?

At that price range I'd shoot for a used B&K. Not too sexy, but about the best you'll find at that price point.
