Take a look at the pictures (nices ones at that) http://www.rush.com/php/tour.php?f=0&sub=roadpics
Reading a few concert reviews on the Rush web site, a few people comment on Geddy playing through the dryers. Anyone know what's going on here?

From what I've read Ged wanted to balance out the stage. Alex has that huge string of Hughes & Kettner amps and cabients. Have you checked out those amp heads? AWESOME! I saw the R30 tour in St.Louis, when the stage is dark all you see is those amp heads glowing in that cool blue. Ged wanted to even out his side of the stage so he added the dryers. On the R30 tour he also had a revolving carousel vending machine. A couple of buds of mine also saw the vapor trails tour and reported that Ged through out t-shirts from the dryers to the audience.

You will see the W/D combo on the Rush In Rio DVD. They are actually running during the video and you see clothes spinning around inside. They seem to be props and my guess is they are some kind of inside joke...

Enjoy,

The R30 tour at Riverport (or what ever they call it now) kicked butt bigtime. Rush played for the best part of 3 1/2 hours. No warmup bands, just 3+ hours of Rush.

Hey Mark are you going to Hagar in May?

I was talking to a friend about this and he responded:

Quote
Author's note: Instead of a backline of bass guitar loudspeaker
cabinets, Geddy chose to use three fully operational Maytag Laundromat
dryers. The machines tossed RUSH shirts throughout the evening, which
were eventually thrown to the audience by the band members before the
start of the encore. In order for the dryers to stay optional, they
were
coin-fed intermittently during the shows by stage techs.

From http://www.bassinside.com/2003/february/geddy.htm

There is really no need for a bass player to have a backline... It is
all for show anyway.
