Anybody using the Pioneer DV-578a ?
« on: 6 Mar 2005, 02:03 am »
Hiya Guys,

Got a question. I picked up one of these recently and I'm trying to play a Dual Disc (don't sneer) and I have a setup question.

Is there any way to manually set the Daul Disc to play as two channel default  without installing a TV so I can read through the menus?

See, I've got this installed on my two channel rig (not my HT) and it would be a real pain to drag a spare TV over just to set the default to two channel.

That begs the next question. If I do have to use a TV for setup when I shut the machine down will I loose the default settings? My system is turned on and off from a single switch so everything powers down.

TIA

Hi Scott :)

What a coincidence.  I just bought one of these today :D  I've got an APL modified Pioneer 563a.  But I'm finally able to separate my HT and my 2channel system.  So the APL 563a will be going downstairs.

Today I sent out to buy a HT DVD that's main purpose was good picture quality for a decent price.  I first brought home the latest 12bit Sony DVD/sacd player only to be disappointed.  I brought it back after an hour of ownership.  I then purchased the 573.  I figured they modded 563a had an exceptional picture...so I'll give the Pioneer a whirl.  Still not as nice as the modded 563a...but close.

you can do this...but the only way I know is to "plot" the button succession.  I've got a movie to watch with the wife...but I'll post what I could find out later tonight.

   take care,
   dan

I've got one. I'm pretty sure the preferences stick even if the powers off. Set the preferences up while its hooked up to the TV and then move it to the 2 channel system. Also pretty sure its set for 2 channel playback right out of the box.

My player was/is also set for 2ch playback by default.  The preferences do seem to be saved even when unplugged.  The easiest solution would be to hook it up like Konut said.

I've got the key strokes copied down...but even with this you come down to the last option where you need to view what input is selected in order to know how many strokes to reach 2ch area.

Just let me know if you'd like them.

Oh well,

Not a biggie I guess. I'll take it upstairs and plug it into the big screen and scroll thru the settings.

What is throwing me is, I picked up Jamie Cullums flip disc (which isn't half bad BTW) and it seems the 578 defaults to surround when it's on the DVDA side. When you hit the first chorus of the first song a trumpet is in the mix on the CD side but it's not there on the DVDA.

I'll get her set up and transfered to the two channel rig and let you guys know if the settings hold.

Thanks!
