op275 upgrade to ?????
« on: 4 Mar 2005, 09:20 am »
My DAC has two OP275 op amps that I''d like to upgrade to some thing better.  What would be a nice drop in op-amp to replace these reliable buggers. Thanks.

Can you give a bit more information?  Do you have a copy of the circuit schematic?  Do you know if the op amps are used for I-V conversion or just filtering and buffering?  Are these 8 pin DIP opamps or surface mount devices.  And what voltage is used?

Answers to some of these questions would help quite a bit.
Thanks,

Gary,

I look again and it only has 1 op275 soldered onto the board.  it's from an audio alchemy version 1.1 - i think it's 12v rating. Unfortunately I dont have a shematics for it. Thanks.

There are lots of choices.  The ones that I would try would be:

AD823 - a step up sonically from the OP275 and pretty much plug and play.

LM6172 - a better opamp but designed for very high frequency so its easy to get in trouble and have it sound bad.  Recommended if you know how to rewire power supply caps so that they bypass effectively right at the op amp pins.

AD826 - similar to the LM6172.  It can sound very good if you are very careful in how you use it.

I'd probably try AD823 as I really dont want to tinker much with the power supply, etc.... "plug and play" is what i want. Thanks again.
