Solid state equipment - DC inputs
« on: 16 Jul 2020, 12:46 am »
Is there an opportunity for amplifier manufacturers to provide a DC power only capability? Set up a standard based on common lead-acid voltages: 6V or 12V or both and use them to power the amplifiers. It cuts out the A.C. line noise and reduces tne amount of components needed for rectifying the A.C.. Danny has his gear set up that way. Am I missing something?

A 200 watt amplifier might need a few batteries! Hey, recharge your batteries with a solar panel!
Just thinking out of the box.
Let's persuade Nelson Pass to transform one if his First Watt amplifiers!

What are your thoughts?

At one time my main system was all battery powered. Computer, Dac and amp. My battery was 40 amhs and if you use a ctek 7002 charger you can leave it charging even when playing music as completely quiet.

My original system had a 200 amh battery bank that I charger with my solar system, but I found it to be way over kill.

In theory any audio gear can be modified to run on batteries because the a/c is converted to d/c in the gear.

Isn’t Danny’s reference system all off grid?

I think all of his source components are run otg, but the power amps aren't?
