Supra Lorad Power Cable
« on: 1 Jul 2020, 02:35 pm »
Made 1 of these up the other night using Rhodium plated Viborg connectors that I bought from Amazon.  Right around $65 for a 12 AWG cable that turned out a little less than a meter after trimming back the cable.

I’ll dress my next 1 up with some tech flex and heat shrink and I bet I could get at least $300 for the build

Which Rhodium Viborg connectors?

The ones I tried were significantly on the bright side of neutral, so ended up switching to Viborg copper plugs.

Hi !  i cannot find the standard of the female plugs used in these cables.

https://www.audiocircle.com/image.php?id=210712
They look designed for very high currents (up to 16A ?)
i would like to try them in a project to connect a mains trasformer out voltage to a unit.
Could you help me ?  thanks a lot, gino

PF has a review of the factory Lorad cables:  http://www.positive-feedback.com/Issue51/supra.htm

I don’t see the point of custom building these cables unless you are trying to go into production.  The factory terminated cable is available from Madisound https://www.madisoundspeakerstore.com/wire/cable/supra-lo-rad-power-cable-cs-us/.

These plugs are the US 20A version, it was used by Pass Labs in a big 100W Class A amp.

Hi and thank you very much indeed.  I am looking for a connection, plug and panel socket, that can accomodate 3 big wires
I am moving the  mains transformer out of the cabinet in my preamp (maybe i could even buy a much bigger one)  and i am thinking about a good solution for the 3 wires (VAC-O-VAC) ac umbilical 3 wires ...
A video on Ps Audio youtube channel has convinced me about the benefits of having the trasformer outside the box away from the preamp circuits
Then a big diodes bridge > two huge blue Mallory  feeding the already existing PS caps upstream the regulators ... i want a sea of  capacitance inside ... like 2x22mF

There are some reviews out there that talk about how poor the Supra receptacles are.  I am also using the higher end 12 AWG cable that Madison does not carry.  It is copper with silver coated.  Zendada from Ebay seems to be the only dealer that I have found
