Has anyone else seen this garbage?
Stephen Chow has made another bad movie.
-it rips off matrix and does a terrible job at it
- it's not funny at all
- the story/ characters/ dialogue is poorly written

his last movie -shaolin soccer was just as bad.

stephen chow has been telling the same jokes over and over again in the last 15 years
-he should not be allowed t0 direct or write films.

i saw both movies and they both rocked, especially "kung fu", in my opinion. both have a comic-like style (especially "kung fu") and did not for one moment try to be realistic (unlike the matrix, which i love too). with that in mind, i see the jokes and exaggerated body movements to be rather funny. no denying that some fight scenes are similar to those in the matrix, but there are also a lot of original and funny moves in "kung fu".

aside from the fighting, there are also heart-warming stories on many characters. i feel especially proud of my chinese heritage when i see many highlights of:
1. good virtues: heroism, to be forgiving
2. various chinese creations: varieties of kung fu styles, music and musical instruments
3. chinese literature: reference to classic martial artist novels

count me in as a big fan of the movie.

Saw ONG BAK Thai Warrior, the stunts without seconds or special effects are impressive, although the darkness of some settings can make the viewing of the awesome moves, a little difficult. The story line is okay. There is a sheer pain in the moves and the hits are are butted out. The actor, I forgot his name is something else....hope that the finances and also the parts will get better with the director of the flick in due time.

The Kung Fu movie you are talking about as being badly ripped from the Matrix and being bad at it, I did not see, but then, was not the MATRIX and some of its moves ripped off from HK flicks?

It is interesting how things are ripped from one another and then come back to the source once again.

The butting jokes that you see in HK flicks do get tiring after a while, I much prefer the fatalistic ends or the melancholic ending of movies like Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon and even Hero. Real Asian flicks always have the protagonist dying or something at the end....perhaps the entire movie and the experience of the story told changes the protagonist inevitably, in a good or a bad way.

I too liked Kung Fu Hustle as well as Shaolin Soccer. I simply enjoy any movie for what they are and try not to dissect and kill it in the process. Good laughs and great fight scenes along w/ likeable characters made it a good movie for me.

I have not seen KFH, but I just watched Shoalin Soccer for the first time this week in my home theater.

One of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in a while. Made fun of itself the whole time. I will definitely watch again.

I have seen part of Soccer, but did not catch it all. I am a big fan of the whole HK movie scene, especially what I call "Flying Kung-Fu" - ie anything with cable work.

I like most of the dark cop HK movies where the protagonist, often Chow Yun Fat in his younger days, dies in a hail of bullets - ditto the whole God of Gambling series...

I will keep an eye out for both these - I own both Crouching, and Hero.

I really enjoyed that movie... more than anyone else I know that's seen it.

I hope KFH is like Kung Pow. Kung Pow was awesome. Love some of the alternate dialog tracks on the disc. The book on tape track was particularly good.

My guess is that it's similar but doesn't 'get it' like Kung Pow.. but that's just a guess... based on previews which tell me very little...

Saw this on the airplane earlier this week. Loved it! People think this is a rip-off of The Matrix because of the "He is The One" thing, but asides from that one line (which was said 100x in The Matrix and only once in KFH in a much more creative way), the two movies really aren't anything alike. The story is kind of a re-hash of old/classic Hong Kong kung fu movies (small village is under attack by gangsters, "wu shu" masters come to defend the town, gangsters get a wu shu master of their own to destroy them, etc), but it's done in a really off-beat stylized way with over-the-top humor and funny-but-cool special effects.

Recommended...

My wife and I loved KFH and though it was quite funny, especially the chain smoking lady, great spoof on the kung fu genre.

I watched this and Shaolin Soccer... I liked the soccer movie more but neither were really captivating or had me rolling the way other spoofy/goofy movies have. It was all very predictable so the jokes weren't as funny... the timing of the whole movie didn't work. I understood the stylization of the timing... and slow-down-here-it-comes nature of these things but it didn't work for me here. Plus the timing of the super-powers was just silly. I thought it was kind of funny but it had no context so it couldn't be ha-ha funny.. or of course, I'm sure I could've missed some things that would've made it better... I don't know.

Humor is subjective... so, someone else might not like 'Kung Pow, Enter the Fist' or 'Fear of a Black Hat' like I do....

Now THAT's good stuff.

I don't know if I understand myself sometimes...

But, I know what makes me laugh.... and sometimes it helps to have people who 'get it' around me making the same observations. My wife like Jane Austin movies.. ugh.... same stuff every time... or Kate Winslow movies... '2 weeks notice' type stuff... man do I get bored of that stuff.

Of course, she doesn't care for Hedwig and the Angry Inch or Monty Python.. or much of the bizarre crap I like either..

One big difference is the "Matrix" series takes itself very, very seriously, while being ponderous and just crying out for parody.

Having said that, the parodying in "Kung Fu Hustle" is not so sophisticated. I also don't like when martial arts films go from the area of "special abilities" into pure fantasy genre junk, such as creating demons out of your string instrument.

But it had enough visual and character interest to get by, I think.

"Project A", "Crouching Tiger" and the "Once Upon a Time" and "Kill Bill" installments are more to my liking.
