Didn’t get the girl but got the amp.
« on: 18 Jun 2020, 02:35 am »
Not sure if this goes here.  Had a Hinge date on Saturday.  Didn’t work out with the girl but there was a Savers across the parking lot. (sort of like a nicer version of Goodwill, in Utah). I was looking for a lamp shade.  I found one but I didn’t think it was what I needed.  Left empty handed.  Subsequently figured out it was what I needed and that brand new lamp shades are way overpriced.  I went back Wednesday to get the lamp shade but it was gone.  However, this beauty was sitting there, covered in dust.  Yamaha M60.  I wasn’t able to test it but lucked out, it’s running great.  Probably my best thrift find.  Sounding better as it warms up

The Goodwill's here never have these finds.  Congrats, and yes, definitely C&C.

I thought this thing would sound good if it was working but it’s actually much better than I thought.  I also have a pioneer m90 which is probably a few years newer than this one and I’m guessing was more expensive new.  The Yamaha is just better all around- more and better bass, better imaging etc.  this is definitely going to replace the pioneer in my bedroom system.  It does run hotter than most amps I’ve had.

Do you go everyday? When I visited my friend in Tucson, I saw two OK  Onkyo receivers but when we happened to go back the next day, they were both gone.

You can never go back; you must make an instant decision at the thrifts!

According to this writeup it runs in Class A for the first 20 watts:

That would explain the heat and good SQ.   Enjoy.    :thumb:

I still own my original Sansui 771 receiver bought in 1975 -- my first piece of "hi-end" kit (actually, mid-fi) -- everything still original, sounds great in the BR system.  Back then it sold for $450 which is about $2,400 in today's dollars.

Great score!

I'm always amazed when I read about stuff like that amp. I've never found anything but junk electronics at thrift stores.

You probably did better by getting the amp instead of the other way around.

Take it from a married man in quarantine.
