CD-ROM drive
« on: 22 Feb 2005, 06:53 pm »
Hi there,

I am considering the posibility of running the cd's on my computer, through an Ack Dack 2.0

For me all the computer CD-ROM drives are looking the same. Can you recomend me one that is better (I suppose I don't need speed - instead I need as less errrors as posible).

Thank you very much

How much storage do you have?  Have you considered copying your CD's to the HDD?  If so, use EAC ripper, and Monkey's Audio lossless encoding.  Run them through Fubar2k, or Winamp with the Kernel Streaming plugin.

Computer CD roms tend to be extremely noisy little buggers, and tossing them in and out of the tray become cumbersome...

That is OK - I agree with your solution. But still I will need a very good CD-ROM to transfer the CD's to hardware. ANd that will be...?

I've not seen a CD-rom in the last 5yrs that didn't have error correcting.  If you use a good ripper set on high error correction, you will have no problem with almost any CDrom...

(although liteon does make good stuff)
