After Bryston has released the SP1.7 DSP upgrade, what would you like to see it working on next?

Another hardware upgrade for the SP1.7 (e.g. DACs, pre-amp stage, outboard power supply, additional channels, etc.)
9 (34.6%)
Stand-alone stereo CD transport (no analogue output)
3 (11.5%)
Stand-alone stereo DAC
7 (26.9%)
Stereo DAC and CD transport sound cool, but only if BOTH are available - don't want either in isolation
0 (0%)
"Universal Player" (plays DVD Video, DVD-Audio, perhaps SACD)
5 (19.2%)
Blue laser video/audio player (e.g. BluRay, HD-DVD)
2 (7.7%)

But again the Dodson is a DAC design that slaves it's conversion clock from the incoming signal so this is not really a surprise.

The qustion is whether this is what you want since this forces you into buying esoteric equipment that provides a very stable clock into the DAC and then you need additional esoteric circuitry in the DAC to slave off the incoming signal.

If you build a very stable clock into the DAC and either use time shifting with memory buffers or use that clock as a master clock output to drive your source you are guaranteed to have the playback independent of the source and even get that without cyrogenic vodoo. (Sorry could not resist)

For computer sound cards this is a pretty cheap option today but getting a reasonably priced standalone player that does this would be great. My understanding is that the Philips chipsets for the average car stereo CD player have all the necessary logic to implement this mode.

Cheers
