dunno...  oracle used to be in this category, but they introduced an integrated amp a while back...

clearaudio does stuff only related to analog, but this includes fono-stages, cartridges, cabling...

theta & resolution audio used to only do digital, but they, too, now offer amplification...

is this a test, or is there a reason for your inquiry?

Is not a test. I am trying to see if there are any specialized companies in the market in "transports". From my experience - the specialized companies are offering better products.

None that I can think of that fit your criteria exactly.

As far as transports- two that come to mind and are in the affordable category would be CEC and Audio Note.

other than the turntables, not sure what, if anything they build.  i think they put their name on chinese gear, including amps/receivers.

Although clearly they have to source some parts elsewhere such as the DVD-ROM transport, the Meridian G98 is a true CD/DVD-A transport in stock form (DAC optional) with its own proprietary upgradeable software, lots of jitter reduction and quite a few other advanced technology, though, at $6K, it's not for the squeamish.  It's about as close to a custom, hand-built low production transport as you can get.

No offense, but this qualification (must be a niche specialist) is a strange one, given that we have no more info about your search and needs (budget, system info for synergy, types of music, proximity to dealer network).  I mean, for example, the Linn Unidisk or the Meridian G08 are tremendous technological products in their niche categories (cd player, universal player),  but to disqualify them from your search cuz they make a boatload of other (great) products seems premature at this stage.  They are also a boatload of money, if what you are comparing them to is a Music Hall or a Pro-Ject.

The best transport money can buy is going to be hard drive based.  Talk to VRS and get them to build you a transport only if you really like your current DAC.  Or I'll do it for $4,000.

You won't beat a hard drive.  Even companies like Linn who stress the source over all else are going to hard disks.  Ayre has one of the best transports I've ever heard, and it's a PC CD-ROM drive.  HD is a step further.  A big step in fact. . .

Well, he fails your requirement that he produce only transports or cd players, but give this site a quick once over - Canadian owned and operated (out of BC as I recall) and this guy's gear is well respected.

He makes a series of transports out of cd-roms also, and will customize his units, if you so desire.

Worth a look anyway...

Shanling makes Music Hall's products for them.  Shanling builds more than CDPs and TTs.
