New Product, the Vision SET 120 Control Amplifier
« on: 14 Jan 2020, 07:53 pm »
Its a SET 120 amplifier with a passive control section, four sets of line level inputs, precision Alps volume control, (motor driven volume control optional), headphone output, speakers/headphones switch, and built in our RB chassis.

Price is $1199, optional remote control is $100, and it is amazing sounding.  We increased the gain of the power amp sections to deal with the overall necessary gain, thus not needing an active preamp gain stage at all.  It probably has the simplest signal path of any audio component available and the musicality shows this advantage obviously.

Available right now.

If it's as good as the older Synergy Control Amplifier, and knowing Frank's stuff, it's likely much better, that's an insanely great deal.

100 watts at 8 Ohms. Now only 60 watts at 8 Ohms but cheaper than older.

The new SET 120 Control Amp has a much better internal layout and lower noise floor, and yes, much better sound too.

Photos available soon.  It is not up at our web site yet.  Been too busy to do it.

Not internally, would need separate power supply and transformer.

Simply add free standing Vision Q phono preamp.

We will likely offer a special combined price.

Interesting, especially considering AVA has gotten in and out of the integrated space a few times.

Looks like a great value.

As usual, nobody in the business does cleaner layouts than AVA. Look at the interior photo of a DVA 600 if you want another great example. This is the older integrated though? Doesn't matter. The same will hold true with this new one.

Frank, what is the difference between this amp and the SET 120 released last year?

Nevermind, the SET 120 is an amp and the Vision SET is an Integrated

The new Vision SET 120 Control Amp has identical audio circuits as the basic SET 120 power amp.  The only difference is that the gain is increased by 6 dB to make up for the no gain passive control section. The sound is identical, maybe even better, as no active preamp is required.

The price is $300 higher because of the increased build time and parts for the added control section.

You can add the free standing Vision Q phono preamp for exquisite vinyl playback if needed for $399 (normally $499) if ordered at the same time.

Whoops, I just realized we can't offer the remote volume control in the new SET 120 Control Amplifier.

It would take an additional small power transformer and power supply board to energize the needed optical receiver and motor drive circuits and there is no room for these in this chassis configuration and would cost much more to try and squeeze them in.

So scratch that option please.

This is great news as I had written to Frank a few months ago about being on the lookout for a used older AVA integrated amp but was warned that they don't come up very often.

Last year, I moved from powering my original Salk ST's using a Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum II to a Rega Brio (2017) integrated. The Rogue was a beast and occasionally brilliant but I needed to downsize but have since been rather underwhelmed with the Brio running the Salks (I had been warned about this though, my bad...) using a Dual 1019 and a Bluesound Node 2 as sources.
It strikes me that this Vision SET  120 Control amp may make them really sing again....
