I read some rather poor reviews of the McCormack--look forward to your writeup.

On video, it's terrible supposedly.

Man, who would buy the UDP and wear out the transport  to watch mere movies :)   My $150 Zenith DVB318 upconverting DVI DVD player is perfectly awesome playing movies..

Mad Dog, count me in, too.  Hope you don't mind if I burn a little midnight oil after the festivities are over... AGAIN...

Wow, trying to figure out how I can work in a West Coast Swing!   The cable shootout sounds great, especially comparing my VH Audio Pulsars with the Cyberlights.  And very interested to hear how the Spelz anti-cables go over.  Are the cables all broken in, or are some of them fairly new?  That is a dumb question, I guess, but sometimes overlooked.

Looking forward to the feedback.

i read that the video was as good as the pioneer dv-47. since i'm using the UDP-1 is an audio only system, i haven't tested the video and honestly didn't really care about video.

i read some of the poor reviews as well, but i was able to hear the UDP at someone else's home before i bought and that really help me make my decision. i think it sounds fabulous for the price. then again, how me times have you read a GREAT review on a product and then had it in your system and thought it was underwhelming at best?

the VH cables have been in my system for a few months now. the CT cable has been in my system for longer than that...i'll be getting the Silversmith and AQ cables next week. and the Cyberlights won't require any break in.

Just made it to my first meeting this afternoon, pretty cool. Good to finally find some people to talk audio face-to-face with, my girlfriend gets tired of it.

Since it looks like you guys are going to try out some passive preamps, why don't I bring my  S&B TX-102 mkIII transformer volume controls.  It will be interesting to see how they stack up against the Placette, there's been many an argument over the subject. So, let's hear for our own ears.

Also, I'm just making the jump back into vinyl (no tab ...

Hey DM.

Nice meeting you at the LAOCAS meeting Sunday. (I had the Hugh Masekela Cut)

If you get the chance, do drop in on some of the activities.

I think the preamp comparo got "shelved" since there are so many cables to hear.

and since shokunin probably won't be able to make it and he would be bringing the Placette active.

i'd still love to compare the TX-102 vs. the Scott Endler passive stepped attenuators vs. the EVS nude stepped attenuator though...maybe a later date now...

Well guess what?

I should have the KRELL 280P to play with then too :o  :o

We can do a Calisto vs Placette vs KRELL "active" and the TX-102 vs Endlerators vs EVS nudes  "passive", comparo.

Besides the Dodson 218, is anyone intersted in hearing the new PS Audio GCC-250 Control Amp?

The amp that is a "integrated" but NOT REALLY an intergrated?  :)

Hey MD, how do you think the McCormack compares to the CD-1?

while there might be folks interested, we've got too much stuff to listen to already as the main comparisons are going to be the speakers and cables and i want to keep it this way for now. also i am familiar with most everything in the system already so i want to minimize the variables for the interconnect comparison.

you're welcome to bring the amp, and if we have time, we can maybe hear it...

tell you what...host a session at your place and you can showcase whatever gear you'd like!   ;)

but in all seriousness, bring whatever you want to compare...just plan on staying late and we'll compare it after the main event...8)

 :(  = Disappointing performance
:?  = Mmmm. coulda been bettah
:|  = Acceptable, but nothing to shout about
:D  = Liked it and equal in most ways to my reference
  = Liked it better than my reference
:o = It has now become my reference  WOW!

Now of course, I'm just kidding about the above, but my cup of coffee this morning was exceptionally boosting.

I'd give it a =    :o
