I finally got around to connecting my 3.14 directly to my amplifier and using the pre amp feature.  The results were very good compared to running the signal through my Anthem AVM 60.
Question: If I use the RCA outputs to connect the 3.14 directly to my amplifier, can I simultaneously use one of the XLR outputs to send a signal to my JL Audio F112 subwoofer?

Thanks

Hi

You can but you would be only getting 1/2 of the bass signal - you need both to have a full bass performance.

I recently bought a used BDA3.14 (SN#70) and are having some troubles getting it working.

When I want to reboot the unit through the MM software interface, it asks for a username and password that I don’t know of.

What to do next?

James, I intend to purchase a BDA3 in the near future, and I'm curious: Why do you think that the BDA3 is the only DAC to offer HDMI inputs? Most all of the other DACs that I know of offer I2S instead. I will be running the HDMI audio only output of my OPPO 205 universal player into one of the HDMI inputs of the BDA3. Just can't figure out why Bryston is the only manufacturer to offer HDMI inputs. Thoughts?

Hi

The 3.14 was designed a few years back and at the time we felt it would offer more features with HDMI.
1. You could use it in an audio video system as a universal DAC for both Audio and Video.
2. A lot of customers then used SACD players for Audio and they needed DSD decoding capability that HDMI provided.

Currently the 3.14 is offered with or without HDMI model.
Also the interface internally on the 3.14 is I2S.

Recently I started exploring the use of a 2 channel only preamp in my hybrid theatre / listening room, and replacing the SP3. Good as the SP3 sounds in 2CH Bypass mode, I use the room 90% of the time for stereo music listening, and wanted to optimize for music. We can get along without surround channels in that trade-off.

I'm now waiting for my turn in the BR-20 backorder queue. In the meantime, I can still use the BDA3's HDMI inputs and pass-through to the projector to show 2k and 4K video, accompanied by sound. The BR-20 will allow the same capability, although I could also get along quite nicely with the BDA3.

So for me, the HDMI inputs come with significant advantages.

When I purchased my Bryston SP3 years ago, Atmos came out a couple of years later. I went to hear Atmos an the Anthem AVM-60.It sounded so steely and inaccurate, I knew then I'd never want Atmos, and I still don't want it; too gimmicky for me.

I would like to ask a question about the library composition of the manic in my 3.14

I have connected a Synology NAS and have successfully made 3.14 find and update the library.
My question is what should I do to have the artist view build. It's always empty. When I cleared the case from the database I saw the circle rotating but nothing was build. I have also factory reseted many times.
Also it's impossible to have any favorites saved, also It's impossible to have a recently added or playlist created.
Should I do something in order to have these features operable?

Another big problem that I have is that it's almost impossible to listen music from my Tidal account since I almost get the Cookie Monster and the Ooopsies message. (I have bought a Lindeman streamer in order to listen to the service ~1000$ extra for a feature that is build in to the Bryston)

I reported some issues with my unit ages ago, namely MM being unstable with loss of functionality from time to time.

I think I may have finally found the source of the problem. I hope this helps the rest of you out there who may be experiencing issues with the BDP and MM in the BDA-3.14 - and possibly any other streamer.

Please let me know what you think, esp those of you to whom electrical engineering isn't some kind of sorcery.

I had my BDA-3.14 and 4B3 plugged into this Emotiva trigger sequencer.

As I am in Australia I needed a different, Australian wall wart. The guy at Jaycar sold me one with the same voltage but higher amperage. He said that should be OK.

Recently I thought I might try instead using a trigger cable from the "out" section of the 4B3 trigger into the BDA-3.14.

The BDP/MM is now a whole lot more stable. Today I noticed some small loss of functionality (I got the Virtual Front Panel instead of the current input selector) and I had to powercycle the unit, but that was the first time in a very long time. I would consider this perhaps normal Raspberry Pi instability. There might also be in my apartment some other source of power spikes that disagrees with the BDP.

Should the higher amperage of the power supply of the Trigger Sequencer be causing the issue? Should I get a new wall wart with amps more in line with the one supplied by Emotiva?

The 4B3 seems to be doing a good job of not passing it through to the BDA-3.14.

I've had the BDA-3.14 for a few years now and I really love it, esp. now that I no longer have to think about buying a streamer.

Kudos to Bryston for demonstating that it's possible to make an excellent HDMI DAC.
