This device from Virgin Electronics uses 2 TA2024s.  Looks interesting.  A bit more expensive than $30 though.

Edit: The link above is for the normal boomtube which may not have Tripath chips in it.  Check out Chairguys link and the one below for info on the model that definitely has TA2024s in it.

So who will be the first to buy one and rip it apart?

Damn that is a cute little bugga'. Aluminum housing and cones & Tripath guts...all on battery power - niiice :thumb:

Anyone think Li-Ion battery will be any less an improvment than the SLA was?  I imagine it might be as it doesn't run at 13.2 volt as the SLA's do at full charge - a bit of a loss of somewhat punchy dynamics (w/SLA) from the Tripath I'd think..

It probably won't be me to try it, but at only 3.1 lbs for the EX, I might get one down the road if it's discounted a bit from the $199.00 listed at.

Whoops, refer to the Chairguy's link since the news release only mentions the EX having a Tripath solution.  Can't guarantee the normal one has Tripath 2024s in it.  Hmmm....$199 makes it a little less tempting when you can (if they ever come in stock) get two SIs for $50 or less.

I will edit my original post to avoid the confusion.

The normal Boomtubes has an AB (analog) chip amp. I had previously checked when I was confirming with Virgin that the EX was Tripath-based.
