All,

Since I am currently exhibiting at two smaller, back-to-back shows, I am starting this *combined* show coverage thread for CAF2019 (completed) and NYAS2019 (this weekend!).

Our room at CAF2019 (and the one for NYAS2019 this weekend) was very similar to RMAF, except we teamed up with Triode Wire Labs for all system cabling.

- Vinnie Rossi L2i-SE with L2 Dac installed (using TaK TA-300B tubes)
- Innuos Statement Music Server
- QLN Prestige Three SE loudspeakers
- Triode Wire Labs cabling (all Pete' top-of-the-line Power, Speaker, USB, and Ethernet cabling)
- Gigawatt Power Conditioner




It was a smaller room, but we achieved a wide and deep soundstage in the midfield to compliment the incredibly natural and involving sound of this system!

Vinnie Rossi brought the same system that won my Best Sound award at RMAF – his L2 Integrated, QLN speakers and Innuos Statement music server. The only change here was the Triode Wire Labs cabling. Same incredible soundstage, just everything i could possibly want sound-wise.

Ken Micallef of Stereophile visited our room at CAF2019:

From teenage phenomenon pianist Joey Alexander to Louis Armstrong to some modern music I couldn’t place, this rig sounded natural, dynamic, and spatial, creating some of the best imaging in a small room of the entire show.

...absolutely flawless, without a hint of any strange timbral or dynamic irregularities. I haven’t heard much better from any speaker ever. The phantom image was solid and precise from any position in the room, even far outside the sweet spot, another incredibly tough trick to pull off, and full credit goes to Sossa and Rossi for the fabulous job they did setting everything up.

...the detail I heard in this system was among the best I heard at the show from any setup, analog or digital, and without any of the traits stereotypically associated with bad digital sound.

It was fantastic to meet Grover (and recording/mastering engineer Dave McNair, who was also in the room with us) - thank you both for visiting!

It was no surprise that we visited the Vinnie Rossi Audio and Well Pleased A/V room more than once. Their gear seems made to go together... The surprise is that even though the total cost of the system is less than the speakers in most of the other rooms, the sound was one of the very best at the show.

I attended NYAS2019 this year and had a great time. I managed to spend about an hour in the Vinnie Rossi room listening to DHT Goodness from the new "L2i-SE". Always my favorite room and great music selections.

This is a rather small show and was crowded this year (Sat afternoon). I like shows for the variety of music I hear as well as all the great gear out there. I walked away with a list of 4 albums that I want to buy.

I love doing this show, but the audio press doesn't seem to as much.  No matter - the feedback from attendees
was awesome and we appreciate how our room was packed much of the 3 days!

I enjoyed Vinnie Rossi’s room with the QLN speakers, which I’d never heard before. Such a holographic sound from his L2 integrated. And a really cool playlist (He played savior from St. Vincent’s all-piano MassEducation).

Agree- the Rossi + QLN speakers streaming from the Electrocompaniet Innuos components was the best-composed and best-sounding system in the place, besides the obvious $800k carbon fiber horn field coil driver system from ESD, which is out of Hangzhou, China, which is the speaker capital of the world. But for the “real working man” that can afford a mere $50k on a system, that Rossi-QLN room was the one to beat. Funny that we came to that same conclusion on two different days and without any prior communication.

This room wowed! Stage was insane, making the windows and walls melt away. Speakers just vanished.

Am trying to find something to criticize and I just can't. The server brought the bits and just got out of the way. The VR SE integrated turned it into elegance, power and emotion and the Prestige Three made it real; like holy s&!t real! Standout Best Of Show Award.

Woot woot!  Now I'm getting excited. Have the TWL speaker cables and power cable, so I'm guessing the L2iSE will make my system ROCK!

Edit:  12k is a lot for a power conditioner.  I think I'll hold off for the time being.

Sitting in the sweet spot, I was immediately drawn into a truly spacious soundstage that was almost unprecedented for such a modestly-sized showroom.  Depth, air and image location were laid out in spades! 

I was also able to select some tracks that I knew well, such as a couple from Wilco, and was very favorably impressed with the system’s dynamics, as well as its resolution and nuance.

During our time visiting the Well Pleased AV room we put the system up to a real test with our more than qualified “golden-ears” Dave McNair, who will be joining the Part-Time Audiophile writers staff very shortly. He may even scribble out a piece or two for Audio-Head. Who knows? Dave is quick to know if he’s heard something good, and if there are flaws. In ultra-rare fashion, he turns to us after 45-seconds and utters one phrase: “It’s perfect.”

Favorite Rooms of Capital AudioFest 2019

Vinnie Rossi, Qln, Innuos, Triode Wire Labs, presented by Well Pleased Audio Vida. That soundstage! That imaging! That deep bass coming from those petite little 2-way floorstanding speakers! The Well Pleased AV room has been casting its spell on attendees for the last three or four high-end audio shows, but CAF was the show where everyone said yeah yeah, Vinnie’s amps are stupendous, but what’s the story on those little Swedish speakers? They’re amazing! This is the system I would choose if I bought a slightly larger house with a dedicated listening room.

Another big THANK YOU to Marc Phillips, Steve Marsh and the entire PTA team for visiting and covering these shows!
