LIO + VR120 - bi-amp?
« on: 28 Jul 2019, 04:37 pm »
Vinnie - is it viable to consider using the LIO internal amplifier and VR120 external to bi-amp a pair of speakers?

Hi jpm,

The VR120 has about 3dB more gain than the LIO MOSFET AMP, as well as more power.

Typically when you bi-amp, you want the gains of your amplifiers to be the same.

You also typically want the max power outputs of the amplifiers to be the same (you don't want one amplifier reaching clipping before the other). There are exceptions, such as when you use the more powerful amp for the less sensitive bass drivers, and the lower power amp for high sensitivity midrange/tweeters (such as horns, which don't need nearly as much power).

So it really depends on the speakers that you are biamping.

Best regards,

Vinnie
