To be considered a good compliance match for this cart w/r/t resonance frequency, should the arm be low or high effective mass?

What specific arms are considered to provide good synergy?

I used a SME M2-9r arm with it and had great sound with it using both Einstein Audio Phono pre and also a Herron Audio tune Phono pre.

Thanks. Kindof as I suspected.....

At 9.5 grams that arm is on the "lightish" side. Compliance at about 31 (at 10hz) means the ART9 likes to be paired with low effective mass arms.

Too bad, all my arms are in the 13-21 gram range. Only done light research so far, but I've not found any reports of it being paired with arms in this range.

This is a photo of my Koetsu Black Goldline with a Schick Headshell and a combined weight of 23ish grams.
With the additional counter weight it allows the Koetsu to sound wonderful....point being if you have your arm set up with the correct weighted headshell you can you use lower compliance Cartridges with light/medium mass arms. My SME manual even states with the optional counter weight it can use Cartridges up to 35 grams and this is from what some would consider a lighter weight Tonearm.

I think you are explaining a situation where a heavy headshell (plus heavier CW to balance it) can be used to bump up a light arm's effective mass to make it work better with stiff / low compliance carts.

My situation is opposite.....

My arms are medium to high effective mass, and your cart is springy / high compliance. No way to make the arm lighter, which is what the ART 9 requires.

I'm guessing it will work fine.

Jeff Spall (Mr. Audiomods) cites the Cartridge Man Music Maker (MM) as his personal fave cart on his arm. Like the ART9 it is also high compliance and requires a light arm. The specs for the MM says arms up to 13g will work.

I believe the Audiomods arm is in the 9-11g range.
