These "Overkill Audio" Encore speakers look like they may start walking around the listening room on their own

Bet they sound sweet.

Thought this was interesting...

Quote
The Encore -- for the vast majority of its operative band and hence where it matters -- is no conventional cone & dome contraption. If the slower settling times of the usual devices weren't bad enough, their analog crossovers are the most non-linear, handicapped and inaccurate ingredients of the entire audio chain. Just check any frequency response graph in Stereophile prior to averaging. Then check the impulse response charts. Notice how long the drivers continue to ring well beyond the initial burst of the actual signal. Feel your blood pressure rise. If your amp or CD player behaved even remotely in any such fashion, you'd toss 'em from your upper-story window to silence the neighbor's incessantly barking dog...

I like a lot of other members listened to them at THE show. They had a lot of tight bass but I was not impressed by the manger driver. I was told that they would cost $60,000 on that day only and would be going up after the show. Now listed at 74K come on you can get a luxury car for that much.

I think they look pretty cool despite looking like cycloptic robots with head mounted ray guns  lol

but 75K? I would rather get a 2005 Mustang then spend that much for anything audio related.

Bit off topic, but hey for 75k, some truly fine and really fast cars can be had. Not knocking the original pony car, but at 75k, lets splurge and buy something like the Audi RS-6. Totally stealth until you dorsiflex your right food and 450 BHP and as many ft-lb of torque serve notice that this ain't your average euro sedan

As a former S-4 owner I couldn't agree more!

I loved smoking a Mustang in a wagon.

Well I'll risk one more off topic note--the S4, esp with the potent V8 is a terrific car, and arguably better balanced than the M3. Almost bought one, but ended up with a more humble Acura TL which has a great DVD-A surround system as stock and a navi system that is superb. Can basically voice command the car to do anything but drive itself--if the newly emboldened boys at Acura would take the AWD found on the new RL, traansplant it to the TL and add a blowers worth of 60 HP, this would be a world class sport sedan, and non pariel at under 40k!! Right now the TL's 270 HP is pushing the limit for FWD and torque steer.

With the 35k left over we could buy a DEQX, some good digital amps, and a station wagon full of SOTA drivers!
