Not allowed to search

I am not allowed to search topics.  This seems to be uneccesarily restrictive.  I am a member.  What is the logic behind this restriction?

When you made this post you only had 2 posts. Search privilege is available after 3 posts.
You should be able to post now.

I am also a brand new member here. Not allowing the member to use the search function seem counterproductive. In every other forum, I have even been a member of we want the new members to use the search function first so they don't flood the forum with questions that have been answered.

Also, having to answer the same question about "words right of "home" and "last three digits" every post seem a little crazy.

This is a little crazy sir. Why would you not want new members to be able to search? ...so backward...

Welcome to AudioCircle jggrmson

It is the policy of AudioCircle that all new members are on probation for their first 3 posts. During the probation period their posts must be approved by a moderator, and privileges such as Search, PM and posting in the Trading Post Circles are not available.

We recently tried to reduce the probation period to only 1 post, but we found that 1 post was insufficient to filter out the undesirables. So it was changed back to 3 posts probation period.

You can make all 3 posts at once and they will all be approved the same time, then you gain full privileges. The posts awaiting moderation are checked often by the dedicated volunteer moderators. It's not that big a sacrifice for eager new members to suffer a little in order to protect the good atmosphere we have at AudioCircle. Think of it as our hazing ritual, to see how bad you really want to be a member of AC.

A friendly piece of advice, don't attack members and complain immediately on entering a new social environment. We're all here for fun and sharing our hobby. AC is free and the volunteers that make it such a nice place to visit don't appreciate members with bad attitude.

You will benefit from reading the Posting Guidelines, where it states that defamatory remarks are not allowed. Crazy, backward, etc. Technically, your first 2 posts should not have been approved. Please make appropriate adjustments before your 3rd probation post, and thereafter. Thanks!

Thanks for the explanation. As a new member, I too was wondering why I couldn't search, and now it all makes sense. A few more posts and I will be good to go.

I've noticed some sites have prominent "Read This First" disclaimers linked to new member info and general posting guidelines that would relate to topic such as this.  I don't know if we have something like that as it's been some number of years since I've been a new member.

Are there any"Read This First" disclaimers or sections that list what a new member needs do?
