Sad day indeed.  Appreciating all the contribution this gentleman has made in all years to the art and science of audio reproduction...

Very sad, RIP and with good tunes Dr. Linkwitz.

In July on his Analog Planet 'tube channel Michael Fremer posted an interview with the good doctor. At that time he was bed ridden and obviously in poor health.

https://youtu.be/0qWKLBTC3-4

At the 8:23 mark Fremer asks "so, what's the correlation between listening and measurements"? Dr. Linkwitz answers with a smile "that's the big secret", "it's two different apparatus...what is important to the eye (looking at a 'scope or meter measuring a speaker) is not necessarily important to the ear...why should it"?

His final work considerably advancing the art is documented on the Linkwitz Lab website http://www.linkwitzlab.com/.

Bad news, a huge loss for the audio, one of the greats.
He was one of only to say STEREO is better than multi channel.

  • Without music, life would be a mistake.
Wow, that's surprising - last time I was in his room at RMAF a couple of years ago he seemed to be going strong.  RIP.

Huge Loss.  :|. Visited him in his home, a simple man who had a singular vision. Listened to the Orion, Pluto, LX Mini and LX 521 on numerous occasions.

RIP to a serious contributor to our modern understanding of the psychoacoustics of loudspeaker design.

Best,
Anand.

This makes me very sad. I am honored to have met him in his home last year. One of my heroes. RIP.

I am trying to reach the OP by PM to ascertain where he heard this. The only thing I can see is a Wikipedia update on Siegfrieds page that shows an unknown user updated it today (IP 145.132.36.7 Talk page does not exist).

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Siegfried_Linkwitz&action=history

I hope this isn't some malicious prank by someone on Wikipedia...

I have also reached out to the Linkwitzlab User Group admin as well. I will update this message when I hear back from the OP or get any other corroboration as to its authenticity.

UPDATE: The Linkwitzlab User Group has confirmed the sad news.

That is very sad news indeed. He was quite the pioneer in our industry. I will always appreciate the time that I spent chatting with him. He was truly a very nice man.

RIP SL. A great audio mind and person. I am indebted to his vast knowledge, learned a great deal from him.

RIP Professor Linkwitz

It seems like every time that I went to his website to reference something that I had read earlier, I would be held intellectually captive by yet another section/page and learn even more. I didn't know/meet him, but I would like to think of myself as a student of his.
