I think you might’ve gotten Evan and I mixed up in your roll call. Very easy to do; Evan and Kevin and both the new guys who look fairly similar.

But I’ll be there. I haven’t seen Evan post in this thread yet. He’s away at school now but I’ll check with him. This is of course on the middle day of a 3 day weekend so he may be able to make the short trip from Rolla for this epic tube amp showdown.

We have a lot of people attending, so we need some commits on the foodstuffs if you can. We will be start at 1pm sharp with the first tube amp and its half hour run, so if you want to hear all three, don’t be fashionably late.

Parking will be on street, with spots available on north Sappington Barracks before and after our house, a few spots right by our house, and on Buckley on the east side north of our house. One side of our drive is reserved for Don so he can get his amp in the house, and a couple cars can park in the front yard if you desire.

All three amps have done their shakedown cruises and sound quite good.

Its a pimped out Eico HF-60 w Mundorf Filter Caps, Italian tube sockets, Silver Audio Note Tants, Silver RCA and Speaker Terminals and a bunch of special sauce thats under states secrets privileges.

I finally got a photo of the entire kitchen system, and went for the vintage warm photo edit, since we have a 1957 atomic ranch with tube gear. Hope this one works as well!

The Pass / Sony VFET is 18" wide by 15" deep by 7.5" tall. It should fit on the shelf, but it may be tight.

Thanks for all your time and effort in organizing and running today's event, Dave. It was great seeing some new faces as well as familiar ones. The Eico amp surprised me with its sound quality. Don's amp sounded great. I had a really enjoyable afternoon.

Thanks for the kind words, Kent. It was a lot of fun seeing everyone relaxing to the tunes, good food, and many conversations. Thanks to everyone for making this shootout such a fun time. It was a pleasure trying to expose people a couple different listening experiences they maybe had not had prior to today.

Pat Methany’s “Spiritual” from his Missouri Sky album was a revelation to some with the Eico HF87, and the Pass kit that Don built showcased John Coltrane and his Lost album in exemplary form. We made it through some Temptation songs with the Dynaco ST70, but we ran out of time without the Marantz making even a showing. Thanks to Susan, Kevin, Jim, Brian and Phil for making it here as rookies and almost rookies.

I will be talking with Willie to schedule his incredible circa 1938 Wurlitzer tube amps for our next session here, and Don is working on a session at his abode as well, so stay tuned for more events!

Thank you, Dave, for being such a gracious host. The time does fly when all get together. EVERYTHING sounded great. The Eico was not embarrassed by anything.

I'm thinking of doing a Sunday afternoon audio / video session at my place in October. Looking forward to seeing all your friendly faces and ears soon !
