$75.00 Sharp SD-EX111 : SOLD OUT
There is a "buy it now" dealer on eBay that has the Sharp for $77. Unfortunately, they charge $19 for shipping. This is still a good deal for someone that wants/needs a unit like this.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3279&item=5735764480&rd=1&ssPageName=WD1V

Heck, if these go the same way as the Sonic Impact amps, you'll be able to sell these on AudiogoN for $150 when the supply dries up.

I sold a Sonic Impact for $60 last week. The first responder bought it less than 5 minutes after I posted the ad on AudiogoN!!!!

Enjoy,

Check out this review on the Overstock website :

Reviewer: Christine from Boston
"This unit does not have speakers, despite having speaker terminals listed. You will not be able to listen to this unless you have another set of speakers, or purchase a set. I am very disappointed that Overstock does not make this obvious and then charges a 15 restocking fee when their customer service agent also indicated that speakers were part of the stereo system. Why buy a stereo that doesn't come with speakers?"

I guess she was expecting a Boom box  :rotflmao:  :rotflmao:

You know, I agree with Christine. I've thought for years those people who buy expensive headphones and head amps are really, well, odd.

So I didn't buy a second Sharp in time...now I have to shell out for that Classik I've had my eye on. For my second system?  : >

They still sell the SD-EX101, which appears to be the same unit but with speakers for $120.

KKM,

I looked at the SD-EX101 and initially thought they were the same amp, too. They are, in fact, different. The EX101 samples at 2.8MHz whereas the EX111 samples at 5.6MHz. I don't know what effect this has on sound quality, but I would think the EX111 should sound better with the higher sampling rate.

Who knows, though? If anyone tries both, please let us know.

Tim, My Sharp sounded much better after 2 weeks.  Even the CD player improved to the point that I no longer use another CD player plugged into the AUX input.  Good luck with your "two channel".

Did the Sharp CD player improve while you were using your other CDP through the AUX inputs? I'm planning to mainly use the Sharp with AUX inputs from my DAC, but I'd like to know if I need to burn the CDP in by playing it or whether the unit just needs to be running.

Hi Jack,

If you want to burn-in the CD player section, you need to have a CD running.  (you can do this overnight if you leave the unit on repeat mode). If you are using the AUX inputs, you'll be burning in only the preamp section and the power amp section.

Also, I believe if you have the unit switched to AUX input, the CD motor will be disabled, so you can do both at the same time...

If you want to burn in everything, I'd connect a 4 ohm resistor across each output (5 watts will do as long as you don't have the volume cranked way up) and let it run on CD repeat mode overnight.  This is what I do to speed up the burn in process  :P

Regards,

I picked up some Dynaudio Confidence C1's for the Sharp.  What do you guys think?  It's not too much speaker, is it?

please let me know your experience with the C1 and the sharp. If the sharp can drive C1 well, it can handle most speaker in the market.
Thank you.

That is sick!  At first it seems like overkill for a computer system, but damn I'm jealous!  What sound card are you using for your Mac?  How do they sound in that super nearfield configuration?

Hi,

In my personal experience, I left the unit on 24/7 for about 2 or 3 weeks while listening to it about 2-3 hrs a day using either the tuner or the aux in.  On a whim, I tried the built in cd player and found it to sound not bad.  (I got lazy using the cd sleeve thingy on the NEC cdrom, so I just inserted the cd in the easy to use Sharp's cd slot instead).  The difference between my other cd set up and the sharp's cd player is very minimal now, so that I started using the Sharp's exclusively and am keeping the phonopre plugged into the aux.  Less fiddling for me.  :D .

Ok, I confess, I didn't actually buy $6000 monitors to match up with a $75 digital receiver.  The C1's are actually for my rig at home but when they arrived at work this morning I just couldn't resist hooking them up to the Sharp.  Sounds damn good though!

I am listening to the latest Sarah McLachlan (AAC file at 320/kbps) and her voice sounds wonderfully pure and smooth.  Kick drum is solid, though I am thinking that the C1's will play deeper with more power.  Highs are detailed and non-fatiguing, but seem a little unextended (I expect this is because of the AAC encoding).  First and foremost, they posess that natural tonality that have come to expect from Dynaudio speakers.

They sound fine in this near-field set up.  Imaging is rock solid and the drivers sound integrated.  I can't wait to get them home.

Wouldn't they just play louder with more power?

How is everyone receiving their unit. Mine came in a box with bubble wrap but no Sharp packaging internally, just some ends of stiff cardboard supporting the unit.

Oh well, its a great pic anyway!

Seriously though, if you think it sounded good on the C1's then that's a good sign.  Vinnie did mention something about the Low end being limited on the stock 111 so that might have something to do with the low end response.  But I'm guessing that the power does too.  I think Dynaudio's love power.  I heard the Special 25 powered by the Tri-Vista 300 integrated and it sounded like there was sub in the room.

Dave,

I actually presently own the Special 25's.  I found a good deal on a pair of used C1's so I decided to pull the trigger and have a little Dynaudio showdown.  I'll post a review at some point.
