I jumped on one this morning. I used the $8 off $80 coupon from CouponMountain. Click on this link to get to the $8 off deal:

http://www.couponmountain.com/OverStock.com/index.html

The $8.00 is deducted at checkout. With shipping, the Sharp was $79.XX .

Good luck!

Received my sharp today - seems like a great value for the money.
Was happy to see FM can be switched to mono mode (makes for a clearer sound). Only  wished it played mp3s and the phono jack was sized 1/4 inch rather than 1/8 inch.

In fact ordered 2 more today. will take one to work (use it at my desk with headphones) and give the other as a present.

I received the Sharp today. Here are a couple of early observations:

It is a bit larger than I was expecting.

I though there was a drop down door on front for the CD. It is actually a slot loading unit mounted on the top. This will prevent me from using it in the cabinet I originally planned for.

Overstocks.com are idiots when it comes to packaging. It arrived in good shape, but the outside box was very flimsy and there was not nearly enough bubble wrap to fill the void between the Sharp's original packaging and the outside/double box.

It arrived across the country in less than a week from the order date.

I'm currently listening to it with a pair of Reference 3A MM DeCapos. It arrived with the Loudness engaged. It was too much of a good thing. I think it sounds better with the loudness turned off.

It sounds very good out of the box. Not as good as my dedicated 2-channel rig (thank goodness!) but probably better than my HT Receiver ($1000 list price).

More to come as it settles in a bit.......

Enjoy,

TIC

PS     Hey ETR (Steve) how is the new toy you received today?!!!!

Tim, My Sharp sounded much better after 2 weeks.  Even the CD player improved to the point that I no longer use another CD player plugged into the AUX input.  Good luck with your "two channel".

Saab man,

I would like nothing better than having this $75 all in one replace my current 2-channel electronics. I could pocket some serious change!

Enjoy,

So Viggen,

Are you using the Sharp as your primary 2-channel music system? If so, that's awesome! I would love to pocket a a couple of grand and reduce the complexity of my system(s).

Heck, if my experience turns out really well, I might consider the Sharp 5.1 channel all-in-one. I think it plays CD, DVD and SACD. It also has 35 watt/ch. vs 20 for the EX111.

Enjoy,

TIC

I was checking out the same thing too.  More wattage equal better sound right?  Well, sometime it doesn't.

And, the Sharp is my main amp now.  I sold the GC without regret.

I've been using the Sharp with my Paradox 3s for the last few weeks and rarely even bother listening through the auxillary inputs with my Rega Jupiter. If this is the future of good sound, I'd be very worried if I were some high end maufacturers trying to convince a small majority of the population that they need to spend mega-bucks on slightly better sound.

Hey guys,

The also believe the stock built-in CD player in the Sharp sounds really good!  It uses a Burr-Brown 96kHz, 24-bit DAC, separate DAC board that is fully enclosed in metal casing (shielded), and a separate voltage regulator dedicated for DAC chip.  It is also very responsive and quiet.  It seems to read all my CD-Rs, RWs, and even some scratched up discs without a problem.

The all linear regulated power supplies for every section of the Sharp also helps out A LOT!  The Sharp seems to have nearly as much power as my NAD C320BEE (rated at a conservative 50Wpc), but the Sharp is more dynamic and detailed!

Eric, NICE FIND!  I LOVE THIS MACHINE!   :notworthy:

Viggen,

I totally agree that more power is not necessarily a good thing, but the 5.1 channel Sharp would also be used for HT duties. For HT, I think most folks would agree that more power is generally appropriate.

The Sharp plays plenty loud with my DeCapos but I don't know that I would want to try to power my HT setup with this amount of power. I don't know how this type of amp handles clipping and I would be worried about those unexpected dynamics that HT sometimes presents.....

Enjoy,

Hey Tim,

I don't mean to say higher wattage isn't necessarily good.  I just don't want to assume that every amp Sharp makes is of equal quality.  So, you have to try out Sharp's HT amp and let us all know whether it stacks up   .

Sorry, this may be a little off-topic, but has anyone tried using their Sharp unit with their computer soundcard connected through the Aux.

I seem to have a problem with this. When connected, I get tons of hash - I hear tons of clicking, popping, static, whenever there is any sort of activity on my computer (hard drive spinning up, typing, moving my mouse). I didn't have this with any of my other digital amps - Teac Tripath and the Sonic Impact. I wonder if this has anything to do with the 5.6mhz upsampling.

I'm using a laptop with a usb M-Audio Sonica. This only happens with my computer, when using a regular cd player, everything's great =) anyone else with the same issue?

Check out this review on the Overstock website :

Reviewer: Christine from Boston
"This unit does not have speakers, despite having speaker terminals listed. You will not be able to listen to this unless you have another set of speakers, or purchase a set. I am very disappointed that Overstock does not make this obvious and then charges a 15 restocking fee when their customer service agent also indicated that speakers were part of the stereo system. Why buy a stereo that doesn't come with speakers?"
